How do I connect my TP-Link to WIFI?

How do I connect my TP-Link to my desktop?

I know the wifi range is just 100m but if I put the router in a cabinet so it doesn't hit the side wall, am I still in the right range?

What about a network with no walls and the TP-LINK router sits against a desk in the corner out of sight? Will that still give you the same level of range? In this scenario do I really need antenna? If not, why would a TP-LINK not have this function? You can get a signal at that distance. If there is interference from another device inside your house, then it might not work as well as you think.

ChrisinPAJun 6 '14 at 22:00. @ChrisInPA - I've done plenty of WiFi research and for good enough coverage over short distances, you will need to use an outdoor unit. They tend to be smaller than wall mounted units as well. Antennas aren't critical when using short range signals, especially in a non-office area. If your router is inside and you are talking long distances then the antenna is important.

In the case of an old Linksys router, they didn't support outdoor antennas. It was later updated to include an option to buy an external access point and antenna to enable outdoor WiFi (eg in the garage).

There are many types of external antennas that could be used to increase a Wi-Fi signal's range without making it strong enough to work indoors. For example, you could use a "dipole" or inverted L (Yagi) antenna. They're inexpensive and come with the right kind of stand / mounting hardware.

A more costly option is a roof-top antenna. Many commercial buildings include these which would definitely increase a WiFi range by quite a bit. One drawback of this is its expense.

A far better option would be to place the router outside near the main entrance to your home. This would dramatically improve a WiFi signal at your entrance so you wouldn't have to put up with weak spots on your floorplan that happen to be in your living room.
