Why is Surfshark blocking my internet?
When using Surfshark VPN to bypass your ISP, you will often experience surfing or connection times that vary a lot.
What do we mean when we say vary a lot? Sometimes you might notice that in some browsers it takes two seconds to receive the connection page (but usually within 1 second it becomes clear that the problem doesn't have anything to do with your internet connection, but is rather caused by Surfshark), other times you might end up in an situation where surfing with Surfshark is very slow and all your internet connection seems unavailbale, only to realise it is because Surfshark just suddenly cut off the Internet connection while you were reading this page. This issue could also be triggered by a malfunctioning modem. You shouldn't be too concerned about this unless you are able to test on your own system and figure out where your problems lie.
The way of fixing these issues is to use the OpenVPN method to connect to a OpenVPN server. In case of a connection time or speed issue, just restart the VPN connection. The OpenVPN connection should also automatically reconnect to a functioning LAN/WAN connection, in which case any speed and connection issues will simply disappear.
In case none of these methods helps you can send an email at admin@surfshark.com and we will sort out the matter in no time! I am experiencing a connection timeout error and I cannot browse the internet. First, ensure your computer has internet access. After connecting to Surfshark's servers, check the logs for errors in the Connection log section and make sure that no errors are reported.
Once you receive an error due to not being connected to the Internet, it is possible that the error lies in your VPN settings (Advanced Settings tab in the Advanced section). Check your DNS settings. Since we do not control the DNS servers used by your ISP, it is possible that your ISP may be blocking Surfshark traffic if it is unable to resolve host names, or, worse, it may simply drop your requests altogether. You might attempt to solve this issue by pointing all DNS resolutions to Surfshark's DNS servers. Check what DNS server your ISP uses and try to add these servers to your router.
How do I manually proxy Surfshark?
Surfshark will be detected by your server as a HTTP client since it uses HTTPS and a very typical HTTP ServerHello header.
This means that it uses most of the proxy configurations available to applications when setting up SSL/TLS certificates.servername.tld
.
. For example if your listening host IP is 10.11.12.13, you must choose what to do with client IPs. If you do not set an SSL/TLS proxy:
If client IP is 10.13 else When a client attempts to connect to the internal website, Apache2 will check for its IP in DNS, then look for a ServerName specified in the VirtualHost directive (if it exists). When this check passes, the ServerName directive allows Apache2 to choose which IP address to connect back to.
