How to reset Screen Time passcode after failed attempts?

How many attempts until iPhone is disabled forever?

I'm considering returning my iPhone 4S on the 5th attempt that it's been unlocked and/or disabled permanently.

Is that realistic? How many tries does it usually take? If it takes 3 tries, does that mean I need to send back 3 times? It's a 3 year old phone that's barely been used. Well. First off - the average time for them to unlock a phone is 60 seconds to 90 minutes (depends on the complexity of your passcode). This is the time between unlocking an phone and "fixing" the issue - meaning, restoring the phone to an untampered state.

Most people will have their phone completely turned off to begin with - no signal or data transfer happening. The only signal that can be captured, however, is any sort of data connection from an external source. This is why so many people (including myself) tend to take their phones back to the carrier/Apple store to have it re-locked. This way - they can see if anything is transmitting on their network, without having to wait for the phone to try and transmit via wireless.

From what I've been told, this is generally how it's done: Disconnect power. Pull battery (again, even if plugged in). Turn off phone - completely off (not leaving it off, just turning it off and powering back on), until next attempt - do not go into standby. Remove SIM card. Restore phone to original state (if available), using the factory image to restore all settings and software you want, if possible. Do not turn on the phone while restoring as it may cause problems or fail to properly restore Insert SIM card.

Does iPhone reset after failed passcode attempts?

We have an iPhone 4S and it has been having a problem where every few minutes the phone restarts.

The phone will be on, and we will check the time and it has already restarted 3 or 4 times in the last hour. I have checked the battery level and it seems to be fully charged, so it is not out of battery.

It seems like we get these restarting events when trying to set the passcode on the phone. If anyone has had this problem, does the phone reset after the failed attempts to set the passcode? I had the same problem. It was resetting when I tried to set the passcode. I had my passcode stored in my iPhone as I didn't know the new one yet. I tried the passcode that was stored in the SIM card. After trying the passcode many times, it finally did a hard reset and the new passcode was available.

Thanks for your reply, but my passcode was on the phone and that was what caused the reset. My phone was working fine and I just wanted to change the passcode because I couldn't remember it. The reset never happened with that passcode.

I think I might have found my answer. I was able to solve my problem. I had left my iPhone unlocked with the passcode for 2 weeks and it was a bit dead. I went to set up the passcode and then it reset itself. That's why it seemed to reset every few minutes and I thought that was the problem. But it was actually that I was setting the passcode incorrectly. The correct passcode should be a number string and it should start with a number (0-9). The passcode that I was entering was a character string. Once I set it to be a number string, the phone started working perfectly and has not reset once.

How long is my iPhone unavailable after too many attempts?

My iPhone is still able to make and receive calls, send and receive texts and be used as a camera.

However, the screen turns black after too many attempts of trying to use it as a camera, or if I have not tried using it for a long time, such as about a day. What should I do?

What is the meaning of "too many attempts"? If my iPhone cannot connect to the cellular network or the Internet, is it possible that it still can access the cellular network and is not unable to connect to the Internet? What does the technical meaning of "too many attempts" mean? I think the device may need to be reset (see Apple Support: How to Reset an iPhone or iPad). If you have an iOS 4 device, and you've already done a reset, you might want to just restore from an iTunes backup (it's easy). If you have an iOS 3.x device, I think you'll want to backup to your computer, then restore. If you have an older device, check Apple's guide to Restore your iPhone or iPod touch to get the step-by-step instructions.

The phone has no issue. It just needs to be recharged once again.

I tried to restore my iPhone to factory settings and it keeps on saying that I need to restore from an iTunes backup. Should I reset it to factory settings? If so, how do I do it?
