Is it OK to reset network settings on iPhone?

What does reset network settings on iPhone do?

My iPhone was reset to factory settings and now, I am unable to connect to my WLAN.

What will be the right course of action so that I can still connect to my wifi network? First thing to do is connect to Wi-Fi and wait for at least 3-4 minutes. If you are not able to connect to your network after this time, it is always worth a try to reconnect your device to your home or office network, which is required for restoring your settings.

Is it OK to reset network settings on iPhone?

My wife's phone is going out (it's not getting any signal, but it's plugged into a router) and she needs to reset the settings on her iPhone (that has no internet connection) back to their factory settings. I know there's some settings we have to change first (like WiFi password and phone number) but what about the network settings? How do I reset those? (She's new to the whole Internet thing). It depends how many network settings you have set. If there is only 1 then try to reset it if the factory setting did not work then reset the last one you set.If the phone is unlocked and you don't set the network mode to wifi hotspot then set it to wifi hotspot. Reset to factory.

If you've been using your iPhone with WiFi to connect to networks then you might have to disable/enable wifi manually as well. Check the 'manual Wifi control' settings for help.

I just had my daughter (who doesn't know the WiFi password or anything else about her phone) send me a pic of her settings screen on her iPhone, where she says the settings are set to Network: WPA2 WLAN: none, so she's thinking that it's working ok. Then I got her to reset to factory. And that didn't fix it!

We did that, and nothing worked. Still no internet, and no other network settings either. Do we need to add to the fact that she's never used this phone before, to "unlock" the phone? Not sure if that's a good idea. I don't want to "unlock" the phone and then find out it's not unlocked? But the phone is running fine, apart from no Internet.

What will resetting network settings do?

hello.

michaelsm: they do not affect the kernel. when im using wget in terminal. is there any tool which could download youtube video in terminal. nacc: I mean, in the case of a live CD, what can you expect to happen if you reset its network settings? Do I know why? nacc: You're talking about /etc/network/interfaces, right? michaelsm: I don't know why you would think that? nacc: I'd like to know why if my interface doesn't have a default route. nacc: Because I want to know what it's good for. vlad: there are youtube-dl. Python command and there is a gui (i am no expert on this).
michaelsm: if you didn't configure it, then how would you know? oh. michaelsm: but if you had configured it, then what? thx k1l. nacc: When there is no default route, all traffic goes via pings it needs to go through the router. How does it know what to ping, if there's no default route? michaelsm: you can still 'ping' something, even if there is no default route. michaelsm: the default route is set by default when you install a pacakge or configure a service. michaelsm: because he runs some dhcp on the pc at that network (like you with your wifi card when you installed the OS).
