# Lesson 3: Aesop's Fables. "The fable is the greatest story-teller, not only because it teaches by means of stories, but also because it has the greatest appeal. Anyone can understand a story; what he cannot understand is a fable.

Some of the most memorable stories ever told have been fables. This is primarily because a fable is an allegory of a moral lesson. In other words, it tells a story about a lesson. Fables are short stories that are usually parables and often deal with a moral lesson.

In Aesop's time, it was popular for moralistic stories to be told through the form of fables. Aesop's fables are mostly about a moral lesson. For example, the fox and the lion illustrate the foolishness of pride.

Like most of the Aesop's Fables, "The Fox and the Lion" is a very simple tale. There's a moral lesson that is easy to understand. Aesop tells the story in a series of concise lines.

## The Meaning of Aesop's Fables. Aesop's Fables were originally published in books, so they were meant to be read as short stories rather than traditional poetry.

What is the best modern movie ever?

It's a question that crops up every few years.

I remember at the beginning of each year giving this question some thought and trying to pick out the best movie of the past 12 months. In recent years I've been focusing on making the list, with the hope of being the first to do it for the coming year. But, this year is the first that I have enough good movies to select a "best of the year" list, and it looks like it will be a great year for art house cinema. There's lots of interesting stuff on the way, and there are no fewer than six great movies that are scheduled to open later in 2024. So, here's my pick for the best modern movie of all time, in no particular order:

Cabin in the Woods (2012) The Cabin in the Woods is a smartly written and fun film about an ill-fated plan to make a new Hollywood horror film, which is ultimately set up as the least-liked feature in history. The thing is, the actual plot of the movie has little to do with the meta-plot (which is a kind of movie-within-a-movie), and much to do with what movies are like, how they're made, and what our reaction to them should be. The real purpose of the film, as with most great contemporary works, is to entertain you. This includes making you cry, smile, giggle, and occasionally laugh. It's great if you like any of these things.

The Cabin in the Woods had a good enough script to make a lot of people weep in theaters and then buy copies of the DVD. But, it was also pretty smartly executed, with some of the funniest writing and character acting of the year. It's so smart, and so fun, that it was the type of film that got me excited to write about film in the first place. I would be remiss if I didn't include this film among the best modern films ever. You should definitely watch it.

A Touch of Sin (2013) I don't know why I hadn't seen this one before. It's a brilliant piece of film-making. This is a rare opportunity to get inside the head of someone who's obsessed with porn, and then turn around and tell you exactly why it is that he's obsessed with porn. There's very little in the way of drama.

What's the top 10 movies out right now?

I like talking movies with my friends.

It is fun to make a movie list and go see the movies together. The top 10 list is based on a combination of good reviews, what I have heard from friends, the IMDB list, and my own list.

I did not include any sequels because those are basically films made by companies trying to turn a profit. I did include the Harry Potter series because it is part of a larger franchise and the first two films could be considered the beginning. These films are on the bottom half of the list as they are just mediocre at best. It really surprised me that Twilight got so high on this list.

For any other questions about the list, leave a comment. For any movies you think should be on the list, leave a comment or tweet me @Movies101 This week we continue our Top Ten Thursday where I list off a Top Ten of all time, a Top Ten of the new generation, a Top Ten of what's coming out in the next year, a Top Ten of what's on my Netflix queue, a Top Ten of what I am looking forward to seeing. This week, I will list off a Top Ten for the Best Films that opened this summer.

The top film I see opening this fall is Taken 2 which will be released on September 28th. This movie is actually being written by a very talented screenwriter who has done some very good work over the past few years. Even though Taken was one of the worst films of the summer, Taken 2 should still be a good film. This film looks like it will be an improvement over the first film.

I also think that The Purge will be a good film. I haven't seen much about it, but I have seen it mentioned on Twitter and seen positive reviews for the film. The Purge has always been a fun film for me to watch with friends. You can also look forward to some great performances from the cast including Lena Headey, Elizabeth Blackmore, and Ethan Hawke.

Next, I have Fright Night coming out this October. This film looks like it could be a decent horror film, but I don't think that it will be one of the better horror films of the year.
