Does Surfshark still work with Netflix?

Netflix started charging for all of its content, forcing many people to look for alternatives. Surfshark, a company which offers VPN and proxy services, started receiving lots of positive reviews because it worked with Netflix and other content providers. The problem is that Surfshark doesn't work anymore. It's really sad that Surfshark was such a great option.

Why Surfshark no longer works with Netflix. It appears that Netflix has begun blocking Surfshark's servers. Here's what the Surfshark support team posted on Twitter: @Surfshark: "We've been blocked by Netflix. They are blocking our servers. We are trying to find a way to get back on their site. We'll update this thread when we know more."

@surfshark: "Unfortunately, Netflix has blocked us and we can't serve you from our US servers. Sorry for the inconvenience. We will keep you updated on our efforts to get back on their site."

Why am I getting the Netflix error with Surfshark?

A great way to share our love of Netflix is by using Surfshark. It's what I use myself and recommend to my friends and family.

But, sometimes, we get the following error message when we try to start streaming with Surfshark: "error: could not init encryp:". That's an error that the service just doesn't show up in our account.

The problem is that it makes us look pretty bad if we're going to send someone out here for help because we can't stream. And we don't want people to think that we're a bad customer! I've seen quite a few issues with Surfshark mentioned here. Maybe I'm the only one who experiences this issue, but it always seems to be related to how Netflix is configured.

We're going to cover all the steps below to show you how to fix the "could not init" error so that you don't have to have an internet connection to watch your Netflix and Hulu shows and movies. Note: If you already updated Surfsrk to v3.0.7, this will only be required if you experience issues. If everything works fine, the new version might make your Netflix and Hulu experience smoother, which is a great thing.

For reference, here are two screenshots (click on each to zoom in) before we start and after we finish. First step. The first step is to open up the Netflix web page () or the Hulu web page () where the streaming service is available. Go ahead and log in, and make sure that your Netflix and Hulu accounts are both connected to the same Amazon/Google/PayPal/Microsoft account. We're going to go ahead and close down Netflix or Hulu. That might not seem like a big deal, but once we're done, you'll see the Netflix and Hulu servers appear as connected.

When Surfshark is working correctly, it's set to look for Netflix at the root of your computer, and not somewhere else. You can set this up using our guide.

Is Surfshark any good for Netflix?

Here's my unadulterated two cents about the new Netflix-killer. The short answer is yes, it's good. I've been surfing Netflix pretty faithfully since the day the app was released on my Macbook Air. I've tried Surfshark just once (the trial lasted three days) and gave up due to a horrible interface that didn't quite match Netflix's design standards. It felt like an iPhone app in some instances (for example, you can only see all of your movies/shows by using a browser tab or a separate app), and in others not very good - for example the UI for playing content wasn't very good (ie, it's really hard to play and pause content). The app also had a lot of bugs in the interface (ie, Netflix will crash at times when streaming content and your only solution is to close out of Netflix and re-open, which is a hassle).

However, after Surfshark closed shop and left their website un-updated, the Netflix-like experience on the Mac started to look a bit sad. Then I started getting requests from friends who told me that they had used Surfshark and liked it quite a bit, but the user experience just wasn't good enough for them. Their recommendation? Use Surfshark for Netflix. I think they were very clear about this because when I told them that I would switch to Surfshark myself, I heard one person reply Surfshark? Really? Don't waste your time. However, I decided to give Surfshark another chance and test it out myself for about one month with the goal of figuring out if the service was any good.

Surfshark for Netflix for iOS is definitely something to check out if you love Netflix on the iPhone.99 a month paid subscription on the phone. My biggest issue with Surfshark for iPhone is their inability to provide a good desktop (or laptop) experience for Netflix viewing. That issue means that after trying Surfshark on the phone and liking the Netflix-like navigation experience on the phone, I just didn't want to pay the monthly fee for the same experience on my Macbook Air.

Why does my VPN no longer work on Netflix?

A few days back I turned my VPN off and unplugged my modem which, at that point in time, had been connected to a local network. I then switched my phone network off and restarted my laptop (Windows 7) - still connected to the modem (as my phone network was connected through it) - and restarted Netflix and tried to watch a series or two. I found that although Netflix wouldn't list any of my shows, but would tell me when there was a video available - I could select a show on the website. After going back to my shows and viewing a few of them, my streaming then just stopped. My other programs like Spotify still worked fine - and yes, I can still see any posts from Facebook on the site - but I didn't have any luck watching Netflix whatsoever.

This makes them targets for companies like Cambridge Analytica, who will use an app such as Onavo Protect to get around your mobile carrier's data caps by using your Internet connection to mine your data (and those of your friends). Facebook and WhatsApp both have terms of service that state "you may share certain information with Facebook or WeChat . Including phone numbers". This "certain information" is usually linked to user IDs. The difference is the scope, but the end effect is the same. They're allowing developers access to private data -- which they can monetize and resell. Safari and Edge block the Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) feature. So, if you have a Mac or iPhone configured to download automatically via DNS changes to Apple's Public DNS servers, that's no longer working either. (Your PC and most Android devices will continue to download.) Google also blocks the DPI feature in Chrome and blocks the setting under Preferences > Network settings on your Android device (that last one isn't much of an option unless you jailbreak your phone).

VPNs allow you to browse safely and anonymously when you're traveling or want some more security when logging into a public Wi-Fi connection at home or abroad.

Does Surfshark work with Netflix 2022 Reddit?

It's a really good idea, I'm just a little surprised they don't already have an addon for it. Also does it work with other popular streaming services like Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc. The only app I've seen that is actually able to do this is Netflix Addon and Hulu Premium. I hope Surfshark makes a Firefox extension, or maybe something available in an online installer.

I have a very specific need and I'm not sure if other people share it, and it would solve many problems. I would like to be able to watch Netflix on my chromecast from Safari on my computer instead of from my phone or tablet. I wouldn't use Safari for much, only when I use Google Docs and a little bit in my browsing. If the web browsers didn't make my chromecast think that it's a phone or tablet it would be perfect.

Is there any way to do this? I would pay a couple of dollars per month if there is an option to do this. It seems odd that there's nothing listed about support for the Chromecast in the official FAQs, other than "the Chromecast is compatible with Safari". It doesn't even seem to mention Netflix.

This thread is getting interesting! So you get a Chromecast (and how expensive can that be these days), plug it in, open the Netflix app on your desktop browser and it turns your desktop into a mobile-like experience that you can swipe and scroll through? Very cool! Just remember: you have to set up your Chromecast and then you have to go into Chrome and manually make it happen.

Did Netflix block Surfshark?

The web streaming provider has recently said the it decided to limit service. The block was a result of the fact that the company had been receiving a large number of copyright infringement complaints. Netflix argued the blocking of the streaming service was not a result of them attempting to take action.

We at Netd@w had the opportunity to speak with Netflix regarding this issue and the reasoning that went behind the blocking of the service. A brief statement from their part says, When we receive many copyright infringement notices from content owners, that information is taken into account when we make decisions about keeping our content available to customers who are in countries where there are large numbers of these notifications. This is what we always do and how we have handled these types of cases in the past.
