Which VPN server should I use?
For my internet connection, it doesn't matter if I use an US server or a UK server or a French server. All of these countries are pretty much the same.
The problem is that most online games don't support the whole world and many people want to play games from Russia. Most people I know who play these games are from Russia so we want a Russian server. I really like browsing the web on Russian sites because the page load speed is so much faster! The problem is, most VPN services, which can access these servers, are only accessible to US and European people. So this is my question: is there any website or game that's compatible with Russian/Ukrainian VPN servers?
I mean, if you had to choose a free VPN for windows say, in terms of features, performance, and ease of use there is no way you'd go for NordVPN instead of ExpressVPN or VPNArea over a PureVPN account right? I mean, if you paid for VPN software, you'd definitely pick NordVPN over ExpressVPN for Windows, right? In that case, you can't use a free VPN to download the Steam Linux client? And why would you use NordVPN over ExpressVPN? Both ExpressVPN and NordVPN have been around for years. So how can one better than the other? I did some research and discovered that NordVPN is considered by many people as the best VPN for Linux, but it isn't officially supported by Valve. I mean, there aren't even official ports of Team Fortress 2 or Dota 2 for Linux, so even though they officially support Windows and Mac, you won't be able to use their client on Linux.
So why would you go with NordVPN over ExpressVPN? ExpressVPN is way more popular than NordVPN. It has the same top level features that most VPN services have, like dedicated apps for every OS you can think of, 24/7 customer support, etc.
NordVPN is the #2 VPN service in the world (according to most metrics, though I can't find a specific source for this stat, but if I recall correctly from when I researched this earlier), so it has a bigger market share.
How do I get a VPN server?
By default, the VPN server runs on port UDP and TCP 4500 and 5900. To secure your connection and prevent eavesdropping, ensure you always use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) when communicating to your VPN provider's web server. You can find the IP addresses of both the UDP and TCP servers in the log files of your VPN client.
How do I start a server for Tunnelblick? There is no way to start Tunnelblick without having the tunnelblick application running. Start the VPN service at least one minute before you connect to it. Which versions of Windows and Mac OS X support tunneling? Tunnelblick 4 for Windows can tunnel data over any TCP/IP connection. Mac OS X 10.5 and later support Apple's Bonjour service, which allows users to advertise themselves, their services, and devices to other users on a local network. Tunnelblick 5 for Windows can be configured to advertise itself on a local network and act as a personal directory server that shares information across that local network. It then advertises this information to other users on the local network so they can discover it.5 and later support this function as well.
How long does it take Tunnelblick to load and encrypt? Tunnelblick's connection process requires a little time to initiate. During the connection, Tunnelblick will appear in the background and perform some configuration tasks. In addition, it may take a few seconds to create a new encryption key. Tunnelblick typically encrypts within a few seconds of connecting to a server.
Does Tunnelblick store the information that I'm about to tunnel? When using SSL, Tunnelblick does not store your password or any other sensitive information during the connection process. If you enter a username and password on the connection dialog, Tunnelblick stores those values in the application preferences. We recommend changing the application's password after the tunnel is established.
What happens when you use tunneled traffic with Internet Explorer 6? With Internet Explorer 6, you have to clear your browser history if you want Tunnelblick to work correctly.

What does a VPN server do?
When you use a VPN service, you're trusting your internet traffic to a third party, which provides an encrypted connection. In return, you're paying for an encrypted channel, so it's safe from eavesdropping.
It's worth noting that a VPN service is just a provider, who's contracted by a third party (your ISP or the government), to secure your connection. For example, your connection to Netflix, YouTube or Facebook is protected by Netflix and YouTube's servers, who both have direct contracts with ISPs.
When you connect to a VPN server, all the data your browser sends is encrypted and then routed through the VPN server. This ensures that no third party can access your internet traffic.
