My 13-year-old has a phone, but it's the parent-approved iPhone 7 Plus. We put no restrictions on it (no apps, no text, no social media), but he uses it to play Clash of Clans all day, every day.

So far, this method is working great and the teens have to re-enter a password every 15 minutes or so. There are a number of different apps out there that will do the same thing but Google has an app called ScreenLock which I believe is what you're looking for. When you set up the app it will ask you to choose an account type for your kid to use, then a list of google services to allow and the amount of time you want to limit the usage. You then save the settings and the next time your teen logs in it will ask them to enter a PIN to unlock their phone.

The benefit to this over adding their accounts on their phones themselves is that you can set it up on a server to update settings automatically as they use them. If the screen lock feature works for you, please take the time to rate it. There is currently a problem with the ratings which makes it not appear in the store listing. Google has promised to fix the issue ASAP.

How do I unblock an app on Family Link?

You can block apps, websites or specific features from appearing on your Family Link-connected devices by turning on parental controls and then following these steps: Open up the Settings app on your mobile device. Tap on Parental Controls, and choose Turn Off to turn parental controls on and Turn On to turn them off.
