To update an existing application, follow these steps: 1) Go to your Amazon FireTV application on your computer or mobile device. 2) Click Updates on the home screen. 3) Tap Manage > Find Updates > Manually Select Update. To update an application you'll have to go to the Amazon Fire app and tap the updates icon, but I haven't found a way to select from multiple apps in the same device or even on the same device. Why is IPVanish not working on Firestick?

I've had it as a personal pet peeve that IPVanish doesn't work on firestick.

The only way I could get it to work is after the purchase of the firestick a year ago, I went on some forum to seek out a solution. There was a guy who said he got it to work but he had to hack his own firmware. I never saw this method to work but maybe he did.

Firestick is based on linux and that means every person is using different firmware. That's why it's not working on firestick. It's just another example of why this product is so cheap and I think they are being a bit short changing themselves in their pricing. They should better.

IPVanish has been working on Firestick for a very long time, and the current Firestick firmware is incompatible with IPVanish since January 2026. Because IPVanish is an IPsec VPN (not IKEv2) implementation, and Firestick is based on IKEv2, the Firestick firmwares do not support the VPN capabilities we have provided.

In recent years, there are rumors that IPVanish is working on a new Firestick firmware that supports IKEv2 VPN. However, the final solution remains unclear and the future stability is also a worry. We sincerely hope that we can develop a better solution to make IPVanish more compatible with other IKEv2-based devices. Meanwhile, IPVanish will continue to develop a great VPN product for all users.

@mikejones: if you have an old firestick, then your old firestick has already been replaced. What I think needs to be done is to remove the old firmware from the original firestick and connect a new firestick with the new firmware, so it can work fine. It would make a lot of people happier.

Hi Mike, I'm a huge fan of firestick and the price of it is not too bad. That's the reason I decided to upgrade to vpn pro which I really like to play music and movies in different countries while traveling abroad. In my opinion IPVanish does a good job with service and support and I didn't feel disappointed because of that. I hope they could still continue to make a great product and to keep a good user experience.

How do I update VPN on Firestick?

The main Fire TV screen has a gear icon in the top left-hand corner of the screen that lets you control certain settings such as home screen layout and background music and sound. Scroll down the onscreen Fire TV remote's menus by moving it with the directional buttons or tap the arrow button on the remote. You need to find the VPN tab and then select Install Update VPN Client. From there you can update the VPN client. This option is normally accessed from the VPN configuration screen (if you have enabled VPN.) Otherwise the VPN option can be found on the top menu bar as 'VPN' or 'System'.
