I recently downloaded Aloha Browser from www.

Aloha-browser.org and I was wondering whether it is safe to use and is it antivirus software?

I was just asking because I noticed there were some issues on the site of aloha-browser.org, and I was wondering if they were related to Aloha Browser.

The site has been down for quite a while and I tried to reach out to them, but they didn't reply. I found this page that also talks about some issues with the site, but it's not as up to date.

Is Aloha app a VPN?

I was just surfing on internet and I noticed that some news stories say that Aloha is a VPN, but then I found out that Aloha doesn't have a server in my country so does this mean it is a VPN?

I know it may not be a good explanation for the whole thing but just curious about it. Aloha is neither a VPN or a proxy service. They connect you to a server of their choice and if it's in your country you can download things from it. There are probably services that provide a more official-looking URL, but they are merely relaying packets between you and the server. They do not provide any kind of privacy or security for you. They don't even use end-to-end encryption because they don't need it. If the server you're connected to is hacked, you can't break into the Aloha servers.

I remember when I first discovered Aloha, it was in the late 90's I think, and it made me feel really, unsafe to just browse the Internet without being sure who I was talking to. The fact that it's open-source makes it really safe to use, however. Aloha provides a connection to a service in your country so it is a VPN, but they do not have any servers in the United States. They currently only provide the service in Germany and Austria.
