The problem is because OpenVPN uses DNS to select the remote server. If the DNS settings on your network and that of the OpenVPN server are not the same, your router will resolve the host name of the OpenVPN server (but only by using the DNS servers on the OpenVPN server), but you won't be able to connect to it! You can either set up a DNS service on the OpenVPN server (or use a free DNS service) or use Tunnelblick's proxy service (see below). The way Tunnelblick sets up OpenVPN is quite nice since it allows you to access all your network services when you are connected to a VPN (including web sites, etc.) When using Tunnelblick's OpenVPN feature, you don't access internet sites while connected to the VPN.
