Is there one that's not blocked? I looked at one of the top rated VPNs and it seems to work on any network. I'm not looking for one that will be able to get me onto a secure site when I'm in the middle of nowhere, just one that will get me onto the internet when I'm at school. Is there a list of VPN's that aren't blocked by schools?

You don't need to worry about this. The internet runs on TCP/IP, and TCP/IP works fine on the school network. The only reason it might be blocked by school admins is because they're worried about it being used to download illegal content, which isn't really a concern at all. How do I unblock VPN from school?

I'm using the OpenVPN client on my Android to connect to the VPN at school.

How do I unblock this VPN? I can connect just fine and it's set to "allow" connections from a few IP addresses but it's still blocked for some reason.

I've tried going into the openvpn config file and changing "allow-from" to "127.0.1" and nothing has worked so far. I've also tried to run it from terminal as root with no luck.

I'd appreciate any help or guidance that could be provided. Best. T

Re: ? You have to use a different approach than that of the "allow-from" parameter. OpenVPN should run as root, if you cannot make it work as root (ie you're getting an error message) then you have to use a different approach than that of the "allow-from" parameter. I would recommend that you write a program in Java or Python (for example) that listens for incoming TCP connections on the IP address of the VPN server. When it gets one, it then sends a VPN CONNECT packet to OpenVPN on that IP address, with the data in it indicating what IP address the user wants to connect from.

When OpenVPN receives this packet, it will then send the user the requested IP address and will then start a new TCP connection from that IP address. This is what you would use the "allow-from" parameter for, in order to allow the connection to be established. For example, if the IP address you want the user to connect from is 192.168.10, then you would have the following in your OpenVPN config file:

I think you may have missed some important details. You're trying to connect from outside the school's network. The school's firewall probably has the ability to block VPN connections. I'm not sure what kind of firewall you have at home, but the school's firewall might not block VPN connections. The way it works is that your router at home establishes a VPN connection with the school's VPN server.
