Is Astrill unlimited?
So ?
That is what I have been wondering for some time. I have heard the following 2 conflicting answers: Yes, there is a limit of 30 days on the account. Yes, there is no limit. I'm hoping someone can clear up the confusion for me? Are there any limits at all or is it just one-off? According to Astrill official forum: What are the limits that the 30 day trial account imposes? The 30-day trial account has three limitations. Firstly, it cannot generate income. Secondly, it has very limited access to our dashboard. Thirdly, it cannot be used to send or receive payments.
Is Astrill VPN owned by China?
Is Astrill VPN really owned by China?
We have all heard how governments want to monitor their own citizens. The American NSA is said to be collecting data on U. Citizens as well. There are plenty of questions we'd like to ask the NSA or Astrill about their data-mining procedures.
I've asked if it was possible that Astrill was owned and controlled by a government like Russia, China, Iran or North Korea since some of the features of their software and infrastructure make it easy for anyone to use it. The company has said no. I will let you know if this was just propaganda or not, in our follow up articles.
It really looks as if a lot of VPN services have been bought and set up in China. The service "Astrill" has also been purchased by them. The reason Astrill VPN does not offer a free service or is available for US only is clear. It is run by "China Telecom's network operations center". It runs at least two servers based in Beijing .
This is how to find the IP address of their servers in Hong Kong by using Tor. If you google "a strill vpn free download" you'll find thousands of Astrill users on Facebook who are claiming it's free and doesn't have any restrictions but after using it for a few hours it starts slowing your internet and connecting to Chinese servers automatically! China is not the worst offender when it comes to data mining. They've already forced Google in the past to block maps on mobile phones because the user was traveling from China to the United States.
The real problem with free VPN. The problem I see with free VPN's like Astrill is that it seems to rely on ads, malware or viruses to pay for its servers. Also the amount of traffic it carries has to make it's owners some money to operate the service, although you don't pay for the bandwidth. As soon as your activity starts generating money to keep the service running there is going to be conflict. You can imagine a scenario where your bandwidth is being consumed to serve advertisements that end up blocking ads on other websites to pay for the service that carries those ads. I'm not even talking about being logged all the time. But you're only paying for what you use so people have every right to question and demand their logs!
Can you share Astrill VPN?
I use that on the Mac so I am unable to use this on Android.
Thank you. Lars. Android devices are rooted, and thus, can access all resources as the host does. If you want to limit certain apps' access to your device's netowrk resources (the data connection you pay for and the data usage) then you need to set up a virtual firewall between your device and the Internet. One good solution is to use a Virtual Private Network, like the Android-specific solutions here and here.
