Why is Black Mirror season 6 so different?

How many episodes will be in Black Mirror season 6?

I'm wondering if there's an official number of episodes like on most series where they have 14, 22, etc.

I haven't seen an official number yet, but there are only 11 episodes in the first half of the season. The showrunners for Black Mirror season 6 have hinted that they may be leaving a season after this one, with the 11th episode being the last we'll see them. As it stands, season 6 is currently filming now and will air in 2024, before it leaves us for 12 months. Update: It looks like the latest episode was actually number 6. Season 6 of Black Mirror has been confirmed to be 10 episodes long. There will be ten episodes in season six. It looks like season 6 will have 8 episodes.

Why is Black Mirror season 6 so different?

Why does it seem, at least to me, that it has something to say?

Black Mirror season 6, the fourth episode of which aired on Thursday, is an experiment in mood, tone, and structure, and a lot of it comes out of this simple idea: If you have one day in your life, is there anything you wouldn't do to spend that time with your friends? That, if anything, is the heart of the new show. I realize that the question feels rather broad; I might as well ask about my feelings in the wake of my beloved's death. It's an easy question to answer, though, considering the opening sequence, which finds protagonist Charlie Brooker looking at a time-tripping photo of him at the age of 19 (that's 16 for those of you playing along at home), at the wheel of his parents' Corolla station wagon, in a car full of people that's parked on a street he's walking down in London.

But we don't know who those people are. They are just the faces. They're all the faces of strangers he's had the pleasure of meeting, or perhaps, depending on how you look at it, the people we have the pleasure of meeting when we're young. Maybe they're our real parents. Maybe they're our idealized ones. Charlie doesn't know and that's where the season begins.

As usual, Black Mirror's series premise follows Black Mirror's tradition. If everything that Black Mirror has ever said about technology was true, then Black Mirror's sixth season would be a nightmare unless, I suppose, everything that happens to Charlie happens on Black Mirror's terms, such as being a reality TV show.

The show's theme is that technology changes us at once in positive ways and in horrible ways. The people who appear in this week's episode are Charlie's idealized parents, whom he remembers fondly, and by not entirely pleasant means. They're parents after the best of parenting advice, but they don't listen to Charlie at first. It's hard to know whether they can even hear him, since, when they start listening, they're no longer listening.

Is there going to be a season 7 of Black Mirror?

Because, if you want to be on the safe side, it's about nine months too late!

This time last year were eagerly awaiting the Netflix Original Series, Black Mirror, a show that is already known for delving deep into the most disturbing aspects of the human condition. With it being set in the near future we had thought maybe we would see some type of tech-punk cyberfuture (although the showrunners have repeatedly stated they think of it as more dystopian than anything). However, I think we can all admit that since then we haven't seen any more episodes - and I just wonder whether I'm going to miss out?

So let's take a little trip down memory lane and ask ourselves a few simple questions. Will there be a Season 7? I really do hope so - although I just don't feel like we can rule it out forever. It only feels like there's been a season every other year or thereabouts since the series premiered and it's always been such a pleasure to know that we'll get to see what Charlie is up to next. However, I understand why the producers chose to go with a wait and see strategy rather than telling fans the answer straight away, and if that doesn't work for them I have no doubt that Netflix would pick up a couple of new fans over the Christmas period.

Would a Season 7 still work on Netflix? Even if it hadn't been picked up yet (which it was after series 5 and 6) I'm sure Black Mirror still would have lasted - this time last year I thought that series 3 and 4 were going to be the end, until it was revealed that they were actually only part 1 and 2. Yes, it was more disappointing for us all to know that there wasn't going to be a Season 5 and 6 at the end of series 3 and 4, but that didn't stop people trying to figure out when season 5 would happen, and series 4 came around at just the right time.

If anything, I'm even more confident in the fact that, because Netflix picked up season 6, than I am in the fact that season 7 will still be made.
