I am getting concerned with these types of questions being asked frequently on this forum.

I was wondering if a vpn hides my internet activity from my WiFi router. The reason for asking is I have android smartphone connected to the internet. I have a wifi router in my office and I connected my computer to it. I had set up the vpn server on my office computer so that it will hide my internet activity. I did not configure my office wifi router so that it connects to the internet through the vpn. As of now, my computer is connected directly to my office wifi router but internet activity from my office wifi router is not shown in the network traffic (using win 7). Does a VPN hide your internet activity? Please answer. Thank you.

VPN works by routing your traffic through a different computer, which in theory can be completely isolated from the one you are using on the Internet. This means that if someone intercepts your traffic at the remote computer, they can't see anything about what's going on between you and the computer that runs the VPN, because the VPN traffic is hidden. However, it will not prevent you from sending and receiving data to or from other devices (eg computers, mobile phones, etc.) connected to your home network. Your VPN will only work with devices connected to the same network as the remote computer you are using it with, not external devices. I've just installed a new router in my house, and I'm currently trying to setup a guest network for people who don't have WiFi.

I've entered the IP of the new router into the router settings, and set it as the DHCP address, and I've set the static IP address to 192.168.2 and set the default gateway to 192. This means that no one is able to see any information that my old router would have provided them.

However, I still see all the traffic on the wireless LAN that my old router was forwarding on to the internet. How do I stop this? Is there any way that I can change the IP settings of the wireless network to stop the old router from forwarding any traffic? You are right to use a different IP range. The problem with using the same IP range as your old router is that the router will advertise it's own IP range to the other routers in the vicinity and those other routers will accept the advertisements and connect to the Internet without needing a DNS query.

So, it's more secure and efficient to make sure all the devices using wireless in your area have different IP addresses from the existing wireless devices (including the new router) and you'll be able to get rid of the existing wireless devices by disabling their wireless functionality.

If you connect to a public WiFi network, then all your communications are visible to anyone with the proper equipment and who is physically close to the connection point. The only way to ensure privacy is to use a VPN. You'd be safer going through a VPN than going through a poorly secured WiFi network.

Whether or not your VPN logs your traffic and whether or not your VPN keeps a log of your traffic is an entirely separate matter and one that you can't determine simply by listening to the advice of others. I've never used a VPN provider that had logs of what I'd done when I wasn't connected to the Internet. They would certainly be able to see everything I'd done when I was, but I'd be willing to bet there's no log kept of things that were done only on my personal network.

With a VPN you will get the same speed as without one, as it will just route your traffic through the VPN. There are a couple of ways that your internet traffic could be recorded. If you are on a shared wireless network, it may be recorded by the owner of the network and/or their internet service provider. If you use a VPN service, and that service is also used on a computer that is also used for the purpose of accessing the Internet, it may be possible that your internet traffic is recorded.

If you are using an ISP provided router to access the internet, it may be possible that your internet traffic is recorded by the ISP.
