Can you grow Camellia sinensis from seed?
There's a number of people who are doing it now.
It was common practice when I was in China in the past and has been used for quite some time before then.
You can google around to find some more info. If you get one from a reputable supplier there's no reason why you couldn't grow your own if you have a greenhouse. You might also be able to get one from nurseries who sell seeds which are guaranteed to germinate.
No, this is not possible in the ordinary sense - you can't produce seeds without pollination. The closest you could come would be an open-pollinated variety. The Chinese cedar and camellia are both difficult to get seeds from (you have to graft them), so even if you could get them from seed, they wouldn't be available in all countries. But you could still enjoy them.
Is Camellia sinensis easy to grow?
Yes, it is very easy to grow.
It takes 2-3 months in an apartment setting and is relatively trouble free, with no bugs or other problems that plague many species.
It is actually one of the very first species of plants ever grown by humans. However, even as far back as 6000 years ago, its usage was limited because of its very narrow growing range (China) and its large stem. It had to be kept in a greenhouse.
Is it easy to propagate? Yes, it is easy to propagate by cuttings. In the spring when the leaf buds break, take softwood cuttings at a length of 10-12 mm (1/4-5/8 inches) to a rooting hormone containing medium or water solution.
Camellias are not sensitive to dry, hot or cold soils. They prefer fertile, well-drained soil with a high organic content. Camellias flourish in containers; they do fine in small patio pots, but will outgrow such containers in one season. The plants need a minimum size for containers of 35 cm by 25 cm (14 inches by 9 inches).
How to grow cattleyas? Cattleyas are among the easiest of all plants to grow. With some patience, camellias can be easy to find and grow. There are two types to choose from - the upright or vase shaped variety.
Cattleyas need sunlight from 6 to 9 am for their roots and stems to dry. If you start them too early in the spring they will go dormant and look sad.
When should I plant cattleyas? Plant in early spring after last frost. Plant in March for spring flowering or May if you'd like to give them some fall color. Plant outside, even in winter on warm days. Cattleyas don't need any sort of protection from snow, rain, wind or frost. But, if they are going to be exposed to high winds, cover the plants with a large plastic sheet tied to your house. (Do this about a week or so before predicted winter winds.)
How to grow hollies? Hollies are a hardy evergreen tree suitable for landscape planting. They are long-lived and have a wide range of soil, moisture, temperature and light requirements. The leaves, which resemble oak leaves, are very effective at reducing the levels of carbon dioxide in the air.
