TV is available in Canada for both Canada and the US, and it works great on my home connection (which I run through a VPN) but not while I'm abroad. As a result, I was unable to watch last night's Dodgers-Giants game, and as it turns out, others are also having trouble watching the game. MLB.TV insists that VPNs are to blame.

I'm glad that MLB.TV's system works very well for most people, and I would hope that it will eventually be available for others outside of the US and Canada. But if MLB.TV is indeed blocking VPN users, it's a poor way to treat their customers, and is a pretty stupid way to deal with a problem that's completely outside of MLB.TV's control.

I'll be making a donation to BattlefortheNet soon, and have already donated to BattlefortheNet, so I don't expect this issue to happen again. But at the same time, it's still rather stupid of MLB.TV to do this, and I hope they fix it.

If you use Tor or another tool to anonymize your internet connection, then you should be able to use VPNs with no problems. I'd go as far to say that the only reason you're having a problem is because you're using a VPN that requires an IP address to connect.

That's pretty much what I believe too, though MLB.TV is definitely not the only problem with VPNs. With my VPN, there are also issues with some websites (in particular, Netflix) and streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Instant Video), and when I tried to watch a DVD on XBox Live, I couldn't (and apparently some of these issues were present before I got my new IP address).

The biggest culprits for failure are not the players or the device, but your internet connection, which is typically behind a corporate proxy. In a recent thread, another contributor mentioned that some providers offer premium-based tiers where the proxy is pre-configured. If this is the case, you can simply connect and get it working as expected.

Is there a way to find out the IP address associated with a particular connection so I can see if it is working or not? I just found a really good article on how to do this. How to Find Your Internet Address (IP). On Windows you can use Windows Device Manager to view all attached devices. From there, right-click to get an option to view drivers.

From the list of devices, there is usually a line that shows your Ethernet Connection Number. When this line becomes highlighted, select it and then click Properties from the context menu. On the System tab of the Properties window, scroll down and you will see the IP address. If that IP address is the same as the one the other users have, your internet connection to that device is obviously functional. To double-check, test from another PC on the same network segment, and see if you can connect.

The first 3 steps to diagnose connectivity problems are done primarily on a PC, but I don't have a lot of information available here about this as I do for iOS and Android. The main issue you face is that you may not have much control over the wireless router in the house you are connected to.

If you are on a LAN with a WiFi network and your PC on the LAN has an IP assigned, you will know if it works. Unfortunately, you have no information about the physical IP.

I have to check something on my Mac using pfilt, but will let you know if it works. This is definitely an area that Apple needs to address if/when they ever get around to updating macOS to use IPv6 addresses.

Thanks! I just had the same problem. For some reason, the MLB.TV app was trying to access the internet through my phone instead of my home network. Once I corrected this it worked just fine. You can right click on the MLB.TV logo in your web browser and select "Settings" to make sure it's on your local network.
