Is bad batch getting a season 2?
]
Airing in its weekly slot Thursday nights (before "Talking Dead" on Talking AMC Fridays), AMC's new comedy "Comic-Converse" may not seem all that popular with fans of the convention or even those who have not seen the original pilot. It doesn't star any recognizable actors; it centers on nerds (it is about geeky guys who attend the San Diego convention); it has no major stars (and there will be no reunion of the cast if it returns). What does exist, it seems, is a strong creative team. This year, three different writers and producers who together helped with the comedy ensemble series "The New Normal," as well as ABC's "Happy Endings," NBC's "Mallrats" and "My Name is Earl" contributed a first episode: Sam Laybourne ("Happy Endings"), Scott Silver ("Mallrats") and Josh Gordon ("New Normal"). Their names appear with the title at the end of the credits. All together, two more writers and the creators themselves, Greg Berlanti, Andrew Miller, Michael Rauch and Sarah Schechter, contributed episodes.
So why do we care? Well, the creative team looks like a good foundation for this sort of show. After all, those writers' credits are a kind of a promise of quality. "Comic-Converse" had that potential with their first episode (despite a few misfires on the script side, the episode contained enough amusing touches and moments to get anyone talking about the show). With another episode, we have reason to hope that the premise is one that will last (and, of course, we have no clue yet as to how this will play out in a series). The series takes place during Comic-Con itself, as six geek friends try to navigate the convention while hiding their secret identities.
We can learn a lot from how "Comic-Converse" handles its comedy, its characters and, yes, its conventions but first we have to see if we want to watch it or not.
Was The Bad Batch a flop?
Was Hustlers a hit?
Did a film that had a lot going for it fail? All valid questions, and we'll get to the answers in this post.
So I saw Bad Batch, the new film by writer/director Desiree Akhavan, earlier this month. I liked it a lot. It was the type of movie you don't see in theaters these days: it was dark, and smart, and funny, and it got a great soundtrack from Frank Ocean. Bad Batch had everything you look for in an indie film, right up until it ended, leaving you with your jaw on the floor. You might not even recognize how good this movie is as a mainstream release. (It was released in April 2023, but got held back from release until 2023.) At Sundance in January, it got a premiere at the Park City Film Festival, and then a limited release in November. It will be streaming in the UK next week! In other words, it should've been out for a long while, but wasn't. That's an interesting position for this kind of film to be in, which should've been out two years ago. We're not getting all the films we should be getting!
At its heart, Bad Batch is about four women in Los Angeles-Molly, a yoga teacher from Connecticut; her friend Shruti, a struggling actor in a production company in LA; their roommate Vanya, a rapper from Jamaica who just moved to L.and needs a place to crash; and Vanya's friend Babydoll, another artist who works in graphic design. These women love each other in a strange way, though they are very different, and they talk about everything and everybody, and it's a movie you should see if you want to understand something very unique.
The movie came together organically over three years, and is so cohesive that you might think it was made in one summer. It begins in the present, and goes backwards, to when Shruti moved to L.from New York, and what she did between the days of moving here and her first audition. It's about a lot of little moments, and a lot of moments that are still important to our characters even now.
Will there be season 3 of The Bad Batch?
And if so, when?
I have not heard of the new series so far and I'm thinking I'm in good company with the fans of the show. My theory is that it'll be a lot like Bad Robot which is how this entire fan base got to know the awesome work of Joss Whedon and his team of writers and directors. Now I'm not saying that I will hate on any new series but since we've seen this movie and we know how great the ending was, it's really just a question of when?
I don't see season 3 happening, personally. I think the writers of The Bad Batch will move on to new material, hopefully not leaving us hanging for another while. But I am pretty sure there will be another episode sometime. Probably right after Christmas, just to end the season on a positive note. There are so many possibilities with our cast alone, but that's another thread.
There has been a very successful web series and book-turned-film called The Bad Batch. The show runs from June 26, 2023 to November 23, 2023. The filmmakers are on target to finish the second film by the summer of 2023.
In The Bad Batch, the government decides to take its citizens's children and force them to act and think as criminals. The only real differences between the children's home and the training center is the children's costumes and the type of food they eat. The children are told they have to kill innocent people for money and food. They also have to kill a police officer who is trying to stop them.
The cast is made up of two young male actors, Michael K. Williams, of HBO's The Wire and Eastbound and Down and Will Brittain, of The Vampire Diaries.
There is a Facebook page for The Bad Batch and it is very active. You can go to www.facebook.com/badbatchexp to get an idea of the fan support for the series. You can also go to www.thebadbatchexp.com to learn more about the actors and creators of the film and television series. The first episode of the web series is available for free on iTunes and will be available on Netflix soon. The first film will also be available for free on iTunes.
