It seems to be asked every so often and yet I still find it answered incorrectly so I thought I'd do a more detailed follow-up. Firstly, let's take a look at how the passcode works and where we might try to crack it. It's not that the thief knows the user's fingerprint, they simply know where the code ends. This means that the hacker needs to know a) Which digits are to be removed and b) Where exactly they are (the exact position of each digit). The hacker then removes each possible digit in turn. So once you've removed the digit at position 6 you know that the next possible change will be 0 or 1. In other words, the only number that will change will always be the last digit in the passcode as a sequence of one (0), zero (0) and zero (1) indicates three changes and only these numbers are ever changed. Note, as mentioned earlier, each sequential change (0, 0) could actually be different values depending on the previous change to occur.

Of course there is a limit on how long the passcode can be. On iPad, for example, the maximum length is 16 digits.
