Where do I find my DNS settings?

krizo, you want to keep your files. krizo: backups are always better. mohamed: Yes, you can install firefox or chromium from the software centre. krizo, copy your /home to a usb stick or a second hard drive, then reinstall. krizo, of course, first backup . but where is the package manager or the diferent apps like skype and gimp? it will ask you where to download stuff when you install. mohamed, sudo apt-get install skype gimp will do the trick. so can I open a page like www.google.com.br directly with an url on the right bottom?

Is the DNS server inside the router?

I am getting the same problem on two different routers, a Linksys and a D-Link.

I can ping the nameserver on the router and it responds back.

You might need to open port 53 on your firewall on the router. If you have the router's console open, run the following command: ping 8.8 and see if the IP address returned is the one that your router uses as a nameserver. If not, then you need to set it up in your router's setup.
