Why is my PrivadoVPN not connecting?

It may happen that your connection fails due to one of the reasons below.

Make sure that you have set up your Privado VPN account correctly. If you are in China, there is a big chance that your network is blocked by the Great Firewall of China. For that reason, we do not recommend connecting to PrivadoVPN from China.

If your network is correctly configured, it could be a matter of your internet connection, for instance, if it has dropped suddenly or you've been on a slow connection recently. If you still cannot connect, try restarting your system. Make sure that you are connected to a Wi-Fi network. PrivadoVPN only supports Ethernet connections.

Some Wi-Fi networks in particular have firewall settings that block connection attempts made from PrivadoVPN. Sometimes your Wi-Fi network has a public IP address. If this is the case, make sure that you have entered the correct address to your PrivadoVPN account settings.

Your Wi-Fi network may have a firewall that blocks the incoming connections. Make sure that your firewall has the necessary settings.

Why is my PrivadoVPN not working? It is possible that your VPN provider has disabled your account due to suspicious activity, such as a breach of our Terms of Service. In that case, you will not be able to log in.

How do I setup my own WireGuard VPN?

Step 1: Create a virtual private network.

To set up WireGuard, we first need to establish an encrypted virtual private network. This is typically done on a headless Linux server in the cloud. The server will ask for a name for your key and then show some text asking you if you want to accept it. Type in yes and hit enter.

The name for your key will be displayed after you answer yes. Step 2: Connect to a remote server over VPN. Now that we have a new secret key, we can create a new VPN connection to any remote server. Once you have entered your password, the IP address or hostname of your remote server will be displayed after a while. After about 10 minutes, you should see that you now have a connected tunnel named tun1. To check that the connection is actually working, you can make a ping to the remote host (eg mydesktop). If everything works correctly, you will see that the ping was successful. Step 3: Add a public IP address. As we need a public IP address on our Linux server, we can either setup DHCP on the local machine to provide one or set up a static IP address in /etc/network/interfaces. For both options, it is important that your server has public IP addresses enabled. This means, your routing table must include routes to these public IP addresses.
