This is an excellent question. You can also add apps to your Dock and they will open links as well. Just go to "System Preferences" > "Dock," select the app you want to associate with the link from the "Favorites" list and drag it from the list to the Dock. The same method will also work in Chrome if you switch it into fullscreen mode.

Why won't my iPad open certain websites?
My iPad has been open for several weeks.
I just updated from iOS 7.1 to iOS 8 and suddenly I cannot load certain websites on the iPad. I can open the Apple website and other apps but most of the time the Safari browser will not load a website. My phone works fine and so does my desktop computer. What should I do?
We've had two people with very similar problems. Both of them updated to 8.0.1 and it just started acting up a few days ago. Sites that used to work just fine now don't work at all, even on a brand new iPhone 6 that I purchased. It's not just you, though - they're seeing the same thing I'm seeing. I found a couple of different sites that work for me (the site I mentioned above, and Google maps for example) - some work for others. It's not specific to anything, it's just that certain sites won't load for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What OS and iPad are you using? Could you describe what's happening? I am using an iPad Air 2 with iOS 8. When I attempt to visit Google.com or any other site, the Safari browser crashes.
I have two other iPads, both iPad Air 2, that will load these sites just fine. I have this issue and my husband has the same problem, we're thinking of upgrading our phones/iPads, and seeing if that fixes it. I've read that something got changed with iOS8 where websites have to work differently, and I'm wondering if that might be it.
We both have the iPad Air 2, iOS 8. We were recently upgraded to iOS 8 and now it seems like it is randomly freezing every now and then when we're on certain websites. We've tried loading them with and without cellular data and no luck. We tried resetting our phone and iPad and it still has the problem. It's never happened before since iOS 8 and we can't think of anything that would cause this. Any help would be appreciated.
