Why doesn't NordVPN work with BBC?

Why can't i watch BritBox with a VPN?

I have tried a variety of VPNs and the result is the same, whether the VPN works with the BBC iPlayer or not.

I've tried to watch BritBox with them and it tells me that it can't connect. The VPNs I've tried are:

Sky Broadband / Virgin Media (I use it to watch Sky Sports channels). Proxmox VE (I use it to watch TV channels from other countries). Any suggestions? This is probably not the answer you want to hear but there is no real way around this. The reason is that the BBC IPTV streams are encrypted and so are the video files on the Britbox channel. When you watch iPlayer, you will be trying to decrypt the content. If you use a VPN or any other kind of anonymisation then your connection will be routed through servers which won't be able to do this.

How can a VPN service have access to this information? Also, why does NordVPN say my computer has no "Internet"? If my computer does not have an internet connection, how can it be said that my computer has no internet access? I've also tried to configure my router to filter incoming ports for BBC. Here are the instructions I followed.

You must have a cable or dsl modem with port forwarding configured to forward incoming connections on specific ports (like port 80) to your computers IP address. If you don't have that set up or don't know how to do it, use the NordVPN website () and create a user. Then just use that user name in the instructions below and you should be good to go.

What did NordVPN tell you would happen if you went with the instructions? I didn't follow those instructions. I just went to the NordVPN site and clicked on the download link and allowed them to grab their software for me. No idea what happened after I installed the software but I'm guessing they grabbed some other package.

The setup file is called "setup.exe" if you used Windows and "nordvpnsetupwin.exe" if you're on a Mac.

My advice is to start with the setup that lets you select the server you want to connect to. It will then start downloading and installing the software. Once that's finished, select Continue if you want the software to stay where it is and be available to start automatically when your system is next rebooted, or choose Remove if you want the setup file to get deleted after the program is done.

It's probably in the setup files that NordVPN uses as a base to figure out what is and is not possible. In this case, they tell users that they have no access to a computer's network configuration, and therefor can't modify anything on the computer.

So, if your ISP blocks BBC inbound traffic at their end, then they need to unblock the port that BBC is using (ie, 8867).
