When you sign in to the console, it will show you the IP address of the Proxy Server you're using and the port number of the proxy server. So if you are signed into the PS4, and not connected to any network, the IP address will be something like 192.168.1:8888.

I did some research and I think I should clarify some of my previous findings. In order to use a proxy, a network connection is needed. A proxy server is basically a website that you can connect to via your browser. With the website, you can connect to any site or content that you want, and change the IP address or location of the connection. For example, if I want to access Netflix, I would go to and enter in the URL of the streaming video site, and it will redirect me to another server (in this case, Netflix). Then I just have to open the new connection using the IP address of the Netflix server. This IP address can be static or dynamic.

I did notice that the connection speeds to the Netflix servers are much better with a proxy server, so I assume this is why that's the case. However, I am able to access Netflix on my PS4 regardless of whether or not I use a proxy server. In addition, Netflix's mobile app still allows you to use a proxy server if you have a wired internet connection, but no luck with mobile.

Furthermore, after some research, I found that a proxy is usually used to conceal the IP address of the person behind the computer/device, or something like that. But I'm still not 100% sure why a proxy would work with my PS4 in regards to Netflix and other streaming video services.
