Can you set a timer for apps on iPhone?

How do I schedule an app to close on my iPhone?

When you sign into your Apple account on the App Store, you can schedule an app to close at a specified time, or within a limited timeframe.

For example, you might choose to set an app to close at 8:00 PM or before your next scheduled appointment.

Select the app from the list of apps on your Home screen, or launch the app from the App Store app. Tap the More menu (for iPhone) or More (for iPad), and then tap Close. If you tap Close when you're already in a closed state, the app will reopen at the scheduled time. If you tap Close when you're in the middle of a task, the app will close.

If you're still having trouble with an app closing, try these tips: Make sure you don't have any other apps running, and that you haven't been interrupted by a call, message, or other app. If you close your phone, you'll lose all your work.

If the app closes when you're typing, try tapping the Return key on your keyboard to finish what you were working on before closing. If you have a third-party app that might be interfering with the app that's closing, try disabling or uninstalling it. Check with your company's help desk to make sure no one else is using your device. How do I find my Apple ID password? You can change your Apple ID password in two ways: Log in to your Apple account on the web, open your Account preferences in the Settings app, and select Apple ID and Password. You can also type in the last four digits of your Apple ID in the Passwords section. Tap your Apple ID at the top right of the screen.

Tap Forgot Apple ID and Password. Enter your email address that you use to sign in to your Apple account, and tap Continue. Tap Confirm, and then type in the four-digit code sent to your Apple email address. Tap Change Password. You can also reset your Apple ID password by opening the Apple ID login page in your web browser. This will send an email to your new Apple ID password, which you can change or modify.

How do I disable apps during certain hours on my iPhone?

It's so simple to do this on your iPhone when you're using the Apple Watch app!

The way I set up my watch is that it is in "standby" mode during the day and only wakes up to check for messages or emails at night. On my iPhone, I can turn off apps at any time, but I cannot prevent certain apps from waking up at night. I would like to block any email app from being able to wake up in the middle of the night. How do I do this?

You can prevent apps from being activated during specific times, but not specific apps. In Settings > Touch & Pen > Block Notifications, you can choose which apps you want to block when your phone is asleep. For instance, I would allow Twitter, Facebook, and WhatsApp from being used, but would block things like email and Instagram.

If you have an iOS 8.0 or later device, you can also choose which apps you'd like to block from activating when your phone is asleep.

So in the example above, if I wanted to block Facebook from activating when the phone is asleep, I could tap on the Block Notifications option, and choose Facebook from the list.

Can I put a time limit on apps?

Yes.

On iOS there are restrictions on the amount of time for apps to use location information, as well as on how much energy apps can use in a period of time.

Apple has released guidelines regarding app location data and energy usage. They state that apps can use your location information for the following: To provide an offline map or route based on current location. To determine where you are within a specific place (a business, restaurant, etc.) To provide driving directions from a starting point to an ending point. For general navigation (when the user is not inputting starting/ending locations). These guidelines have resulted in improvements to the Maps app, including allowing you to hide the map of a specific location so that no longer shows your current location. Apps cannot use location services more than three times per hour. They can only use location when the app is open and active.

When is location data useful? When was the last time you used Google Maps to find directions on a trip, then went to the app to find the information for your destination? With most apps these days, they ask permission first to see where you are before asking if they can use your current location or historical location data. Once your apps get access to your current location and/or your location history, it's difficult to remove that data from the app.

If your device isn't connected to the internet, it's likely that this location data is never used at all. But once apps have the opportunity to use your location, and you've allowed them, how long does this information remain in their memory and available? Some apps do their best to delete data right after it's done. Others leave location data in storage. And some apps are so bad that they store every bit of data that they get from your location information, even after you've told them not to.

So how can you use this information safely? While Apple has provided some guidelines, I think that users have some responsibility to protect their personal location data. So it's up to you to keep track of your location and remove your location data from apps you don't use any more.

To remove location data from your apps, follow these steps: Tap Settings on your device.
