I was looking for a workout timer when I ran across the website for the FitMate. But is it really an app or can it be used without an iPhone or Android device? If so what would be the best one to get. Thanks.

This is a good question. I don't know if I've ever heard of a workout timer that you could use without a smartphone or tablet, though I have been thinking about getting a FitBit for some time. You will need to be using the calorie calculator, but there is no reason why you couldn't use the activity tracker as a workout timer, too.

I do use an iphone, but at least to my knowledge, there is not an app for the iphone, so I would just use the fitbit app or something similar on my phone. I don't think you could get an app to use without having an iphone.

I'm on android tablet. If I set an alarm on my tablet, will I have to download an app to get the workout information from the FitMate? I'd like to be able to just access the app on my tablet while I'm working out.

With the help of Fitmate app, you can receive all the data in real time without any kind of internet connection and with the use of an Android or iPhone.

Is there a free HIIT timer?

Hi there, I just bought a new Garmin watch and I've tried to use the built-in HR monitor feature on it.

I'm unable to track my heart rate during a workout. I've followed the instructions on this post:
And I've followed the instructions on the timer application on my phone to setup a timer on the watch itself, but when I try to set up the timer, it asks me for a passcode, I enter it, and then it gives me the following error: Error Code 5: Requesting to set a passcode on the device failed. Thanks in advance for any help. So I just bought a new watch and I have the same issue. It's a first gen Garmin Fenix. Can anyone help me set up the timer?
When you say the Fenix, are you referring to the 2nd gen Fenix? I would contact Garmin support and ask them to set up the timer for you, if you have an issue with that process, you can post back here with the resolution.

How to set exercise timer on iPhone?

My iPhone is set to have its default alarm.

When the alarm goes off, it starts to play music with an equalizer setting and an exercise timer for 1 hour set up. I really like this option of playing music while I work out. The only issue is that I can't hear my music as the default sound is the alarm and when the alarm goes off, it takes the audio channel that was previously playing music. So, is there any way that I can set my exercise timer to stop music playback and use a different channel to hear my music without turning off my alarm?

As an example, I can watch an episode of Mad Men while I get things done in the kitchen or laundry. The alarm sounds as the series starts to end so I can finish my chores during that time period.

Hi Andy, I did some searching and found that you can use the Timer app on iOS to set alarms. Also, you could set the alarm to your workout channel as well. I hope this is the answer you were looking for.

Thanks for the tip about Timer. As far as I know, my timer works well by it using the sleep and activity tracking capabilities in my iPhone 4S. I like it because it works when I am not near my iPhone. So, it is something I can use and not something I have to plan around.

When I have my phone plugged into a charger, I use the Timer app to set an alarm for 30 mins and it keeps that set for the next 15 mins every time I go to bed. The alarm uses the audio channel that is connected to the charger so the alarm sounds even when the phone is off. The only drawback with this approach is that I need to be near my phone to be able to hear the alarm sound.

However, if I turn on my iPhone while connected to my car stereo and I go to work, the alarm sounds when I start driving. This is not as good because I don't hear my music while driving which I had set up in the beginning.

So, it is a trade off between working while being near my iPhone (good), and driving and being able to hear the music (less good).

How to set a timer for exercise?

I really do like weight lifting on the treadmill.

It's so much fun. But I'm lazy, and I'm in no way shape or form fit enough to lift weights. I'd have to get to a gym and go to the weight room and I don't have time for that. I think setting up a timer would be great for when I'm using my treadmill. How is this thing doable? I'm pretty happy with the speed of my treadmill, because I love that fast stuff. I just don't have a lot of stamina. Anyone ever know how to set a timer? I'm not familiar with computers. Thank you!

Yeah, I was going to suggest a weight-timer with you doing weight-lifting. It would be easy to put on there, "5, 4, 3, 2, 1." and have you set your treadmill to the amount of time it will last. Plus you can save yourself some time by not starting your next lift as soon as you get off the treadmill.

I know you can buy such a timer, so maybe it's worth trying, too. I think an exercise timer is a wonderful thing to have. One that goes to 5 minutes. I work at a large company where we have our own gym. Some employees have their own memberships, so they use their times at the gym. However, everyone who wants to use the machines, we let them take advantage of the timer. Once you reach 5 minutes, the timer stops and they are then required to stop too. They can also save the timer if they wish (like a cellphone), then it resets at the start of their next time period. So when you've saved one, you are done. You've now used 3 minutes. Then you get 3 more minutes to finish up. I think this system works. I also think people get to enjoy doing exercises for longer periods of time by stopping short of the whole amount of time. So if they are used to working out in 1 hour (which is typical), then they end up with only an hour in which they are running on the exercise timer. I like this because it gives them the motivation to get away from the "running" and do some other activity.

This is something else you can try for yourself. You can also try something else to see if you like the idea.
