Can Facebook detect VPN?
Facebook is currently facing a privacy backlash after it was discovered it was scanning all users' data and storing it indefinitely for research purposes.
However, it's hard to see how Facebook could store this information without technically storing it. And if this information is stored in such a way, then it raises all sorts of other questions: Is it being used to build artificial intelligence?
Is Facebook storing your data on a different server from the one you signed up with? If so, then Facebook must be running a VPN on that server. This would allow it to intercept all your connections and data. Would you be able to get away with switching to another provider? If it's not running a VPN, then why not?
As Facebook has made it clear it doesn't store this data permanently, the main question seems to be: Does it store it? It is highly unlikely that Facebook is actually running a VPN at this moment, especially considering they have a history of doing everything they can to make their security and privacy issues worse. This doesn't mean it's entirely impossible though. At the very least, they could be using the technology in order to identify VPN clients, and then later use that information to identify users.
VPNs and the NSA. With Facebook, it's impossible to say what really goes on, but based on past experience it's very likely that the US National Security Agency (NSA) will be taking an interest in it. The NSA has been involved with several incidents of companies being asked to provide assistance with gathering user information. In fact, a document was recently leaked by Edward Snowden, detailing a list of over 40 companies that were approached by the NSWe already know that the NSA and GCHQ/CYBERCOM have a special joint unit called QUANTUM. The NSA has been using this unit to hack into both individuals' and companies' VPNs, as well as other means of anonymisation. It's very likely the NSA would be interested in Facebook running a VPN, particularly if it were to store some of your data.
It's also possible that Facebook is running a number of these Incident Response Plans (IRP).
How do I bypass Facebook Dating location?
You can't.
Facebook Dating won't allow you to bypass location services, and even if it would, a phone app or the Find my Friends feature would still have a way to find you.
How to make yourself invisible on Facebook. If you want to make yourself totally invisible on Facebook, you should follow these steps: Download an app that lets you log in as someone else without any personal information. For example, this app is called Piwigo. It's free. The company has apps for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Mac OS X, and Windows, but it says it's made it cross-platform compatible.
Login with your phone using that app. In the Facebook Dating app, click on Create a friend.
Choose a fake screen name or use one of your old or unused Facebook profiles. Then just make sure you're logged in with your other identity. You can use your phone app's built-in messaging app or a message service such as WhatsApp, SnapChat, or Skype.
Why is Facebook trying to control its users' dating lives? I don't think Facebook Dating's location services, or the ability to be found via the Find my Friends feature, is Facebook's idea. I believe that most of the people who use Facebook Dating, myself included, were happy enough just to get messages from anyone, regardless of location. The idea of finding someone you're physically close to via an app may be more appealing to many than the idea of being able to find your friends and others based on distance. If there was something as simple as a smartphone app, why would you want a Facebook app?
Facebook is doing this because a lot of people have been having difficulty in relationships for months. Sometimes, for years. They need to find someone nearby, and they don't want to ask their friends on the best places to meet new people. People aren't looking for love via Facebook or other social networking websites; they're on Facebook because of the friends they have there, not because of a search engine that can connect people via keywords and interests.
We are using dating app because we don't want to face loneliness.
