How do I remove legacy connection in Excel?
The question is how to remove a legacy connection from a list of data connections.
In a previous question, I created a list of data connections in Excel (named DataConnections) and one of them named LegacyConnections. After some research, I figured out that this is a Microsoft Access database and it has a table named "ConnectionList". So, I tried to add the connection "LegacyConnections" with its tables and views to my DataConnections by dragging and dropping it there but it gives me error: "Cannot add the type of object that was created in another database" (I did not have a choice to set the database while adding).
After some research, I found out that we need to use the "remove" button but it is greyed out. How can I remove the legacy connection from Excel? In Data Connections, right-click on the connection you want to delete. Then select Remove from List.
How do I turn on legacy data in Excel?
I have searched and haven't found answer. I need to export some legacy data from one set of data, turn off the legacy data and export the new data with all the functions and calculations. Then I need to turn on the legacy data back to see if there are any issues. I have a feeling it's so much easier with MacOS, however I use a PC for my Windows based workstations.
When you create a new file in Excel, or even open a file (even if you've created a different file), all the calculations, formatting and formulas have been disabled by default. You can either enable this option manually by going to Tools > Options > Calculation > Advanced or using the menu above (this is the method preferred by default when opening a file in Excel). It doesn't actually turn off the calculations, instead it disables formulas and formatting for the active worksheet. This means that you can't use the cell range of a function or calculations in one cell with formatting or calculations to another cell range without re-entering the values into the cells.
Alternatively, you can use the Save > Save as option. This option will save the file in a 'Compatibility Mode' or 'Legacy Data Mode'.
This allows you to open up the file, check and re-enable all functions and calculations that you wish to use (either in the whole file or for individual ranges) to then save out a new file.
