What does * 82 do on a landline?
It's probably the single most important phone number you've ever given out.
It also rings on cell phones if they don't answer it. This is the standard practice for local numbers in the United States. When the caller leaves a message, the phone automatically plays a recording of the caller saying their name and phone number. The caller then hears a short beep, followed by the recorded message. It will cause the system to play the same pre-recorded message that is heard on a landline. It causes the caller to hear a recorded greeting and the number is dialed. If the payphone has a touch-tone keypad, the caller will be prompted to enter their phone number.
What happens when a landline number is blocked?
I recently tried calling my landline number at night, but I keep getting a busy signal.
This happens at night but not during the day, around 6AM. There is only one call per day that comes through, usually at night. Any ideas?
Re: ? I am not sure what could cause that but I know in the days of landlines, most phone companies will place a filter at the Central Office which will block all unwanted or suspicious calls. The fact that its not happening during the day, at night but ONLY at night, that would mean either something unusual is going on at night OR the call is being blocked by the network operator AND the landline is not receiving the call.
You should check with your service provider and ask them what they are doing to fix this. Do you get the call from the same party each time or a different one each time? If it changes, then check with whoever the caller is that you get it from. That way you are seeing who is making the calls.
Or, check with the phone company to see if they are performing any services to keep the call from going thru to your number. Is there an upgrade, service or an error where you dont want to talk? Maybe if the number isn't yours it's being routed through a toll free line. Are you certain it's your number coming up as a call on your bill? "An honest man can cheat death only once; after that, he has cheated himself. Chinese Proverb" Hi, thank you so much for the reply. I was wondering if that was the case if it was being routed through to a different number because I am using the same number on other phones, which are not having problems.
If it's not the number, it's gotta be the service. I just talked with their tech support yesterday, told him what was happening, and asked him to reset my modem.
No, we do not block numbers. We are simply doing some special checks.
How do I unblock caller ID on my AT&T landline?
&T Wireless phone?
If you're having a problem getting callers to leave their numbers, perhaps AT&T's number-blocking technology has you covered. If you're having trouble hearing or seeing the caller when you answer the phone, AT&T may have a solution for you. In fact, your phone company can automatically block a caller's ID and may even prevent calls from coming through. However, don't despair if you are trying to get through to someone who would rather let the person on the other end of the line know where they got their number. If your phone company has these options, you may not have to resort to calling them every time you want to leave a message for someone.
How does number blocking work? Caller ID (caller ID) refers to the system that telecommunication companies use to identify the telephone number associated with a phone call. This information can be used by anyone on the line, including the caller.
Most telecommunication companies use caller ID systems to block number. Caller ID is usually offered to customers as a free service. While many telecommunication companies will make your personal number available, others will only provide a call back number, which won't allow the caller to be identified. Call forwarding is another option that allows you to "redirect" incoming calls. It works as follows: Whenever a call comes in, it is either sent to voicemail or forwarded to a number of your choosing. You cannot block incoming calls to your call forwarding number.
You can choose whether to allow calls from certain numbers. You may want to block telemarketers or avoid getting calls from people you don't know.
To block a number, you need to contact your phone company. Ask them what options are available to you.
