What is a plastic scraper for?
There are many uses for this device.
It is one of the most helpful tools in the backyard shed or garage and also very good as a small scale tool to have around, for things like cleaning the driveway and sidewalk before work (or after too).
It was originally designed for the use of scraping or clearing ice off of surfaces and also snow off of trees, roofs etc. For those applications it is the best tool available. It works equally well with large or small ice build-up on surfaces.
A plastic scraper can be used for a multitude of purposes in your basement when working on the concrete. As always with any tools we own, they are best used for what they were intended. Scraping is a good way to keep your house and driveway clean, but it is not a good idea for you to try it out without guidance. It is far safer to use a scraping tool than a razor blade that your dog can knock over or fall over and cut themselves or you or somebody else on accident.
Another good use for this is when you have finished a painting project (if its not a vinyl, then using a metal finishing steel scraper is much more likely to harm your work, because it will wear out the paint much faster than a plastic scraper, or any plastic scarping tool would do) the job isn't done or the job is a mess and needs repair. Using a plastic scraper to remove paint overspray is a safe method, the only danger here comes from heat stroke if you have a hot car and a long, cold, drive after spraying. In the garage, plastic scrapers are great for cleaning parts, getting dust off, cleaning motorbike tires and bike gear, clearing debris out of tires and rims, removing any loose stones and gravel on roof tiles, and any other small stuff. What size and what length. The size depends upon how big the part needs to be scraped. Most people use something around 10" in diameter for most situations, and this is usually plenty of work area to tackle most garage projects or whatever. But, if the thing being scraped/cleaned is very small, say a 1 inch wide square, the smaller you can go, the better. I'd suggest somewhere between 7"-9" in diameter.
Can you use a plastic scraper on glass?
I have tried to scrub my windows and doors with a glass and plastic scraper.
After a while I noticed that it is not working.
What is the problem? How can I use this tool safely? I have read about some chemicals that are used in the products used to clean glass. Can I use the same products? From what I can see, it looks like it might be possible. I don't think you need anything special for a plastic/glass tool. In fact, many of them are just regular plastic spoons.50. ()
Also, don't worry about chemicals. I've seen companies suggest the use of certain chemicals to help keep glass from breaking. Many companies will even advise against using water alone. But, you are correct, any cleaning products are safe to use.
The problem is that both plastic and glass have an IR transparent plastic or glass coating that absorbs all wavelengths of the light that is used to sterilize it. So, as you get hot, you lose the effectiveness of your chemicals. To make matters worse, a heat source can also damage the glass because it is usually very thin, thus having a high heat transfer efficiency, making it prone to melting as well. A small amount of steam at 100C would be enough to do that.
You will notice that plastic bottles aren't much safer in the sense that their coating is transparent, but since they're made from PET (polyethylene terephthalate), you can actually bake them in a low temperature oven at 130C for a while. If the oven's oven door is open, then it's probably safe to take it out after an hour. You'll need to test them beforehand, but I'm almost certain that they're perfectly safe. It's probably not safe for glass bottles, though.
Even worse, it's possible that using a product called cleaner could actually make your windows/doors more susceptible to breakage, as it has been proved that glass treated with some chemical substances (including alcohol and acetone) actually becomes more susceptible to cracking.
How do you use a glass scraper?
Glass is one of those things that I don't often get to use for what it was intended, but with a little bit of ingenuity it can be a great tool for making a lot of things happen.
If you have never used a glass scraper before, here's a quick video explaining how I use it, along with a couple of other examples that I found handy.
I have been using glass scrapers for quite some time. They are the perfect tool to scrape out old adhesive and epoxy from an existing work of art or a delicate piece. The way I like to use them is to hold the glass in my hand and gently scrape it around the edges. I use a glass scraper because of the amount of pressure that is required to keep a sharp edge. I also like to use mine to help remove old adhesive from an old vinyl record. It's quite handy and does an excellent job.
There are several kinds of glass scrapers on the market. Each has its own characteristics and uses.
What is a glass scraper? A glass scraper is essentially a very thin piece of glass with a pointed end. When holding the glass in your hand, you use the scraper to scrape around the edges of the glass. A glass scraper is useful in cleaning out tiny details in a piece of art. It can also be used for scraping sticky residue from vinyl records.
How do you make a glass scraper? Making a glass scraper can be as simple as buying a sharpened piece of glass and cutting it to the exact size that you need. If you don't feel confident in doing that, you could always buy a razor blade. Some people recommend a razor blade for cutting glass. I would personally recommend not doing it this way, as glass is not really very easy to cut.
Glass Scraping Tip #1: Glass Scrapers are very sharp. Using a glass scraper may seem like a task to complete, but they are not very difficult to use. Make sure you practice with them first. You don't want to accidentally cut yourself while using a glass scraper. The best way to get used to it is to practice. The sharp end is very dangerous, so be careful when using it.
