Which VPN hides geolocation?

Can I use VPN to hide work location?

I don't often think about using VPN to hide my exact physical location while working, but this is an important enough issue to merit discussing it in the open.

I know some companies have policies about remote work and VPN use. If you are working at one of those companies and have questions about these policies, please ask.

Most companies seem to have a policy that states that it is not allowed to keep track of people for security purposes, so if you are at a company where this is true (or suspected), then your best bet is to be upfront about it and just ask what they want you to do. That sounds simple enough, but sometimes companies can get it wrong and this post describes the potential problems associated with this.

Why isn't tracking employees for security purposes acceptable? There are a few reasons why being able to see someone's physical location while they are at a company can be useful. Companies need to maintain a database of people who work at that company to make sure that everyone in the company is doing what they need to.

For example, if an employee leaves, they will need to be removed from a database somewhere. The database may have a list of people who are working in different areas and who need to be alerted about people leaving. This is something that would be quite easy to check by examining when and where a given person's presence ends, and this might be part of a more automated way of verifying that employees are working when they need to be.

If you are working at a company where it is legal, then I recommend that you explain to your manager or security or HR how being able to see someone's exact location when you are working with them can be helpful, or even essential. What privacy-related consequences can come from seeing someone's physical location? The most obvious security-related consequence is that you will never be able to tell if a person is at work or at home. This has happened to many people who worked with me on personal projects and were unaware that their web sessions were recorded by a monitoring service that I used. Some other examples:

We're going to lose a source of good data about people's work schedules.

This is a discussion on How to hide your IP address?

Within the Windows Programming forums, part of the Platform Specific Boards category; VPN's hide your IP address. What's the best VPN? A VPN does not hide your IP address. It allows you to hide your IP address by .

A VPN does not hide your IP address. It allows you to hide your IP address by masking your IP address and sending it to a server in another country. VPN servers are often located in the U., Europe, Asia, and/or South America, and usually offer much higher speeds than "cable modems" like those found at hotels and coffee shops. However, these speeds are not always available, and are often much slower than standard cable connections. The best VPNs will have multiple servers in different countries.

There are a lot of VPNs out there. If you really need one, try Tunnelbear.

There are several ways to do this. The simplest way is to go to a site like www.hidemyass.com or www.ip-adress.org and get your IP from there. They have a free service.

Another way is to use a VPN called OpenVPN. I'm currently using it and it works great.

In both cases, I don't recommend using a public network, like a coffee shop. There are so many problems that could happen when you use a public network, and if you don't know what you're doing, then you'll just make your problems worse.

I've been using tunnelbear for about a month now and I'm satisfied. It has a free service with no limitations and it's been working perfectly. I would suggest tunnelbear for those that want to hide their IP address but want to save some money.
