Is there a dark side of the internet?
Of course there is.
In an era of social media, online dating, and video games, it's hard not to be aware of how some people can turn to all the technology we have at our disposal for personal gain.
Some people will do anything for money, including selling their bodies to strangers. Some people will lie about their identity and use others as tools to manipulate and control. Some people will even go so far as to alter the course of reality itself.
And it doesn't end with people technology itself is not immune from this kind of evil. From software that can track you in your sleep, to websites that can read your mind and control your body, there are countless examples of how our technological advancements are being used to inflict damage on both ourselves and others.
Some of the examples of this kind of dark tech might seem too outlandish to believe. Others might be familiar and a bit more plausible, such as the psychotronic experiments that are still performed by unethical scientists. The ones I want to look at, however, are a bit more obscure, and perhaps a bit harder to believe. But they're real, and they're not fiction.
Before we get into the more unusual examples, it's important to remember that these examples are just that examples. I'm not saying that all or even most of these things are possible. They're certainly not, but the point is that they are real. It would be irresponsible for me to dismiss these examples outright, because, as we'll see, if something is possible, then it can happen.
But the next step is to determine whether any of these things are possible. Is it possible to implant thoughts into someone's brain? Can we predict the future by reading minds? Can we control people's bodies remotely? The answers to these questions, while not conclusive, are still worth exploring.
Weird, Unethical Tech. The first example of technology that goes beyond the realm of fiction is mind control. Mind control has been a staple of science fiction for years, and films like the Matrix are filled with mind-bending imagery and strange science fiction plots. As the world became more connected through the internet, however, some people began to believe that it was actually possible to actually achieve mind control.
What is the dark side of dark web?
There are plenty of sites on the dark web, that is, sites that are part of the deep web that you can visit with a Tor browser or with a VPN connection.
Some are even so well hidden they cannot be found by anyone other than those who are part of a trusted group of people who know exactly where to look. Others are not so well hidden. Many sites on the dark web do just what they claim to do, but some do more and some less. There are also sites that may seem to be part of the deep web, but in fact they are not. The best known example is a gambling site, Silk Road, which is well-known for being a black market. On this site, as well as other sites, there are many ways to spend your Bitcoins for illegal goods, like drugs or guns, and that is what most people think about when they think about the dark web.
However, while most people think about buying drugs on the dark web, there are many other ways that people can spend their bitcoins on the dark web. One of the reasons why Silk Road was shut down was because of the demand for access to it, not for the drugs. The drugs were just a part of the money laundering that was going on.
Money laundering. Many people use the dark web to launder money. The reason is that it is difficult for law enforcement agencies to trace a digital payment. The only way that law enforcement can detect money laundering is by looking for transactions that have no other explanation than money laundering. In order for money to be laundered, two things are required. One, the law needs to be broken and two, someone has to be willing to take the money to be laundered and keep the money for a very long time.
The first thing that has to happen is that law needs to be broken. The easiest way to launder money is to use it to buy goods. These goods can be for personal use, such as clothing and items for your home. Alternatively, the goods can be used to provide services for others. This is where the dark web comes in. If you want to buy something for your home, then all you need to do is to go to an e-commerce site that is hosted on the dark web. These sites will take your payment, give you a receipt and send your product to you. These transactions are anonymous, so law enforcement cannot trace them.
Is it illegal just to look at the dark web?
A look at the legal grey areas around the dark web
It's only a click away.
A dark web search, in the way that we might type the words 'the dark web' into Google or Bing, pulls up a list of web pages that appear on your browser as if you were looking at a series of black and white photos. The pages are accessible from an encrypted Tor service, called the Hidden Wiki, and are only visible to the person doing the search.
These are just a few of the ways that we might access the dark web. Here are some others: Censorship-free news sites. If you're in the US, these are likely to be from the Freedom of the Press Foundation and from Project PM.
The dark web is a network of networks. Unlike the regular internet, it doesn't rely on any one central authority for its existence. There is no domain name system like DNS or a centralised web server like a Google or a Facebook. It's also a search engine. If you're looking for something on the dark web, you'll need to know the exact word or words that you're searching for. This means that the information is distributed across thousands of servers. It's a decentralised network.
The first dark web. The first dark web was launched in September 2024. It was a collection of links to other links.
These links were stored on a server in Poland called Freedom Hosting, which was hosting a network of servers where people could share links and documents. Freedom Hosting was eventually shut down by the FBI in 2024, but the site was resurrected under a new name - The Hidden Wiki.
Today, the dark web is more than just a network of websites and documents. It has its own currency.
Dark web markets. There are more than 5,000 listings for different types of illegal goods on the dark web. These include guns, drugs, fake passports and child pornography. Some are hosted on websites that look like regular businesses, with full names, addresses and phone numbers. Some are hosted on servers that are actually a shell company, or a network of servers with the same address.
There are a number of different methods to use to pay for goods on the dark web. You can use bitcoin, Ethereum or a virtual currency called Monero. You can also use gift cards or pre-paid credit cards.
