How do I install Proton VPN on my smart TV?
You can install and use the Proton VPN on your smart TV using these steps: Connect to an existing wireless network.
ProtonVPN connects via a secure tunnel to your home or office internet connection, then encrypts your connection for the duration of the service. You connect to our router through your ISP, which means that you are securely connected to us as soon as you turn on your TV.
Before you begin, make sure your Internet connection is secure. You can access the Wifi Settings menu on your TV by pressing the Menu button on the remote, then go to Settings > Network Settings > Security > Wireless Settings > Security.
Browse the web securely. First, browse any site in your normal way. (You can switch to a different country by selecting it in the dropdown list on the top-right of the browser).
Connect to ProtonVPN. After the normal browsing session is finished, press the Back button and then select 'Connect to ProtonVPN' from the list of options in the browser. A confirmation message will appear to verify that you want to connect to ProtonVPN.
Add your email to your account. Now, open the ProtonVPN app (available in the App section of the settings). After you login, click the 'Add New Email' link at the bottom of the screen to confirm your email address.
Set up your country. Once you have logged in to your ProtonVPN account, select the Country setting from the Countries menu and choose a country that you want to connect from. Click the Change button. Select the country you want to change from the dropdown list and click 'Go'. Choose a region. If you have set your VPN Country selection to any other country than the one you are actually connected to, you need to set this back to the correct country. If not, skip this step.
If you are connecting from a country other than the one you have chosen, click 'Choose'. The selected region will display below the option to 'Choose a region'. If you want to go back to the selected country, select it and then select 'Done'.
Can I put a VPN on my LG TV?
What I have.
My TV is a Sony KD-55HZ85R. It's model number of 55" HDTV with 1080p. At first I tried to use the HDMI connection for the TV, but I wasn't able to view my TV through my cable box. I then bought the LG D7000B TV HDMI-CEC-USB2 Dual Output Cable, which has both an HDMI and USB connection (see picture below). This allowed me to switch between my Apple TV or any connected device (via the HDMI connection) and also to browse the web on my laptop (via the USB connection).
I then bought the TP-Link TL-WN722N Wireless N Home Network Switch. The wireless connection between the switch and the wall outlets was not quite "instant" - in other words I had to wait for about 3 seconds before it showed that I was connected to the network. I put the wireless switch next to my computer and it immediately showed the network (but no internet connection).
My Question. Is it possible to create a VPN connection from my TV using the wireless switch? Or can I configure my LG TV to create a VPN connection, or is that done automatically? Update. I have now installed OpenVPN software on my PC (Windows 7) and when I set it up it said the following: "This system cannot use dynamic DNS to host a website". "The OpenVPN software needs DNS or DHCP and cannot use a DNS server." I think I had already installed a DNS Server at one stage (in case you're wondering) but I don't remember exactly what it was. So I think my PC will not be able to create the VPN connection.
The reason I say that is that I used this website, "", and it seemed to give me IP addresses that I could just copy and paste into the settings page of my VPN server. OpenVPN allows either Windows DHCP, or OSX BSD DHCP to be enabled. But you need either an OS X or a Mac to actually install the service. There is nothing special that you can do on a Windows PC to make it work.
Does Proton VPN work on smart TV?
- ProtonVPN review for TV
ProtonVPN Review by Jody.
This ProtonVPN review is written on the advice of Jody at VPN.org who provided the device for evaluation and gave his professional verdict after a fair trial by TV. This review is based on using the ProtonVPN app for Android on a Samsung TV and it has not been tested on other TVs.
First Time User Experience. What you see is what you get with the ProtonVPN app. It's just the VPN in the name but it's designed to work with most smart TV devices as we know them. These can be either Android boxes or Apple TV so to speak, and you may well end up using the VPN app if you use any of these things as your smart TV.
You will get a message pop up from the Google Play store saying that ProtonVPN works on the TV but no matter where it says that, it does mean your device is ready for action. In this article, we are using a Samsung TV which means that if you look in Settings/Connections it'll be the IP or DNS tab that's listed as "VPN On". If that's the case, then you're set and can use the ProtonVPN service and you can get a free account from our website for a month. You'll get a certificate from us and once the certificate expires you'll get another one if you sign up again.
Alternatively you can click on the ProtonVPN Android app and have a look through the features. You should then see what's happening under connections/Settings/ProtonVPN. If you see anything that needs fixing, do so and try the service again.
You should always make sure your device is on the latest firmware version available, but even if you do see the message about a new version, it's only meant to work with this firmware version. There are more ways to install the ProtonVPN app on your device than the message in Settings/Connections will mention because you should check the help screen if you are unsure how to get the software working properly.
If you're not getting any messages when you try the VPN, the issue could be DNS or NAT settings on your computer/device and the steps to deal with this need to be checked.

If you have the option to 'Download' applications you can download protonVPN directly to your Smart TV from your computer.
ProtonVPN works with a lot of Android and Smart TV's, please ask if you are unsure of any. I'm confident it will work for you with whichever model you choose.
The only issue with the download is that it uses your mobile data so you may want to use a hotspot or 3G connection when using it for downloads. How do I download the ProtonVPN application to my Smart TV? You can download the ProtonVPN application directly from your computer which means you can also update it without needing an internet connection. This is very useful if you are accessing your computer without an internet connection such as on a plane or if your computer's internet connection fails.
When downloading to your computer make sure you get the latest version (at the time of writing it's 3.5.7 and this should not change).
If you need some further assistance or have any problems installing protonVPN please leave a comment and I'll do my best to help. Download ProtonVPN from the website. If you decide to download the protonvpn VPN directly to your smart TV you need to follow these steps: From the home screen of your Smart TV, swipe down to find the 'Settings' icon, and then choose either 'My Network' or 'Wi-Fi' option, depending on what type of network connection you have. Then, in the 'My Network' section you will find something called 'Wi-Fi Direct' under the heading 'Wi-Fi Networks'. In order for ProtonVPN to connect to your Smart TV, choose Wi-Fi Direct from the bottom menu and then choose 'Wi-Fi Direct' from the top right corner, if it's not already selected. Once you have chosen Wi-Fi Direct from the WiFi networks list on your Smart TV's home screen, you should be able to choose to connect protonVPN directly from your laptop or another PC. Then click on the app and let it connect.
