Is there American football in Egypt?

Was Egypt in any World Cup?

What about this, then: We're going to look at what we should call our World Cup.

Should we just say the "World Cup" from now on? It makes a difference, doesn't it? It changes things up. It makes sure people don't have to think about the other countries, don't have to remember the other teams. One word says everything.

One word for all countries! Yeah, right. All right, we need more than one word.

We need one word for each country. One for Brazil. Argentina. Portugal, and the home team, we'll call them, oh, England. I don't know their name, either. They're in that yellowish green.

Then there's Australia and Germany, the red team and the black team, the ones you almost always see at the Super Bowl, and who are they against in the Super Bowl? Are they against the orange team, what does orange stand for? The orange team. Do we want that? And Mexico? Oh, I guess we'll keep using the one name for that whole team, but we could use the name of the whole, we could keep using "the world," it is an awfully long name, isn't it? Like Africa or something. It sounds so long that we could make two words out of it. "Africa," "world," "cup."

If you say "America" and somebody hears it and they say, "Oh, I thought you said America," you'd say, "No, no, I said." How can you be saying one country but say one word for the country? "America." What about "Africa"? "Asia"? "Oceania?" Maybe that makes sense, though." What would that stand for?

"The United States of Oceania" that we all know. That could be funny if we said it with a British accent and a Canadian one, but anyway it's too much work, and we don't want too many different words. It's not fair to the other teams, it's just too much, and that's how we thinkthere's no reason to have too many words.

I mean, how many words are there for a cup? There's a good cup and a bad cup, right?

Is there American football in Egypt?

Apparently.

It seems I can be a prophet, too. According to my prophetic bible - that is, the Google Internet - the United States of America will be playing a friendly football match in Cairo, Egypt in June. That's right, June. The date is 21st of June.

What's more, it appears that the two teams will be Egypt and Argentina, with the match taking place at the Borg El Arab Stadium on the banks of the Nile. Oh, and apparently the Argentine national team will include Lionel Messi and Edinson Cavani.e. The match is sponsored by Coca-Cola and will be broadcast on the ESPN networks. I know all this because I was Googling for something else. And then I Googled what time does the New York Stock Exchange open tomorrow? Which led me to Wikipedia, where I learned that the NYSE is closed on Sundays. I don't think the NYSE opens for another four days. And I don't know what the stock market opening hours are on Sundays in Egypt, but I suspect they're much the same as the US - open 24/7, closing on Sundays.

So is the NYSE opening on June 21st? There are no photographs or videos or other evidence to support this fact. And the US Embassy in Cairo has not confirmed it.

But then, neither has the Egyptian Embassy in Washington DC, or anyone else who might know. (There is, of course, a precedent for a scheduled football match taking place in June. It took place in June 2025, and it was an exhibition. This was the Copa Amrica Centenario. Argentina defeated Chile 1-0 in front of 50,000 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. The game was shown live on ESPN Deportes and Telemundo.)

I'm not saying it will happen. But I'm not saying it won't happen either.

And when it does, I'm not going to say anything. Because I'm just a prophet, remember? And I'm too busy predicting the weather.
