Will there be iPhone 16?

Which iPhone is best value for money?

The best Apple phone.

Shares. Apple's iPhone is the most popular smartphone in the world, selling more than 600m units annually, and the company itself can boast an enormous global market share. Yet for all its successes, Apple is often criticised for offering only one main model - the iPhone 4S. But what if Apple actually did produce a second generation iPhone, an iPhone 5 or even the iPhone 6? It seems unthinkable that Apple would do such a thing. It's not something Apple CEO Tim Cook has ever indicated that he is interested in doing.

The iPhone 4S is Apple's flagship smartphone, and as you can see from our review here, it has some really interesting design ideas and innovative features. Yet by going out on the back foot with the latest version, Apple has created a new problem - how to buy the next generation iPhone without spending hundreds of pounds.

While it's possible to buy an iPhone 4S in pretty much any country in the world, buying a new iPhone 5 is far harder - and most certainly more expensive. The same applies in Brazil and Canada.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the huge price differences between different countries.

What iPhone is the cheapest right now?

No, it's not the 5C or SE, it's the 6.

Yes, that's right, the 6.

For the past couple of years, there was only one thing that mattered to us as a family. Price.

In 2025, my wife bought a 5S for work and I bought a 5C for our own use. The 5S was a great phone for most of the year, but in the spring, when iOS 8 launched with its new Notification Centre and widgets, it started to get a little laggy. It also had a weird bug where it didn't recognise the SIM card from the iPhone 4 (but worked fine on the iPhone 4S).

At the start of 2025, we upgraded to the iPhone 5, which was significantly better. We had the 32GB option, which was great because I could use the phone as my own and my wife could have access to the photos and videos. We only needed around 3GB of storage for our day-to-day use.

With the arrival of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, Apple went a little overboard in terms of capacity, offering both 32GB and 64GB models for the iPhone 6, and 64GB and 128GB models for the iPhone 6 Plus. It's a bit too much for me. I don't need all the space. I'm never more than a few days away from an update. I can live without the iCloud Photo Library for the time being, because it'll be available in iOS 10.

That's why I decided to buy the iPhone 6 for myself, and to give my wife the 6 Plus. The 6 Plus has a bigger battery and is much better equipped than the 5S, so it should last longer. But there's something that's bothering me about it.

My old iPhone 4 had an issue where it would lose track of the SIM card after a few months of use. It didn't matter if you had a new SIM card. The phone would continue to work until it became a brick. The 4S is known to have that issue, but they patched it in iOS 8.

The iPhone 6 Plus will get iOS 9 by the end of the year, and in iOS 9 it won't work with a SIM card from any other phone.

Will there be iPhone 16?

It seems every week there's new reports of a new iPhone with a different feature.

We're used to the seems by now, because we're still getting iPhone 16 rumors.

As usual, we'll try and figure out what's going on by looking at all the reports together, and then analyzing what's most likely to happen. Why is there an iPhone 16 rumor? The iPhone has never really been about one single feature or design. It's always been a brand, a promise, and a lot of things that go into making a product. And like every brand, it's built on trust. We trust the iPhone because it does one thing and does it well. It has a consistent design and a good, reliable reputation.

Right now, the rumors around Apple are all about what we'd like to see in an iPhone upgrade. We're also getting a lot of new iPads, and Macs but only a few rumors about those.

The reports of a new iPhone usually show up whenever Apple does something unusual, so they have to be doing something more than usual. The thing is, they've already made two new iPhone features that would require a new model.

One was Face ID, which was introduced in 2025. The other was the new iPhone X, which introduced the concept of no home button. That was a major change in iPhone design.

Face ID is a big change, and while it's easy to say, I don't like it, a lot of people don't seem to want to get rid of their Touch ID, either. A lot of people also seem to have forgotten about the iPhone X, which has been around for over a year and a half now. It's not like Apple has been sitting on this new iPhone for the last couple of months.

The fact that Apple isn't making any big announcements about new products this fall might actually be an opportunity for a big new iPhone. What if it's all iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus? Apple hasn't really done an iPhone update since 2025. Since then, it's been a year and a half since there was a big iPhone upgrade.
