Why is my TunnelBear not opening?
If you are using Chrome or Edge, it is most likely due to a network connection issue. Try restarting your computer or router and if that does not resolve the issue, try rebooting your device. If neither of these solutions work, then try uninstalling the app. After you have uninstalled the app, try installing it again.
If your TunnelBear account has been created recently, you may have a temporary TunnelBear account that has not been activated. If you believe you may be experiencing a temporary issue, log into your TunnelBear account and request a password reset.
Why is TunnelBear not connecting on iPhone?
When trying to connect via TunnelBear on my iPhone 4S, it keeps saying that the connection failed. My account works fine via the TunnelBear mobile app on other devices, it just doesn't work on my iPhone 4S. I tried to set up VPN connection via the Settings App, but it only provides options for setting up a secure connection to a WiFi network. I have no idea where to set up a secure connection to my VPN server via a tunnel.
Any ideas? Edit: I'm aware of the "OpenVPN connection" from the Settings App and the "TunnelBear connection" in the main menu. They're actually the same thing, just from different perspectives. I'm referring to the actual tunnel connection from the phone to TunnelBear's server.
@Nico: It was a bit unclear, but apparently, I'm not the only one having this problem. As you stated, both "TunnelBear" and "OpenVPN" are in fact the same thing. They both connect to your device using your phone's 3G connection.
So, what do you guys suggest? OpenVPN is more difficult to configure than "TunnelBear"? My router's firewall is set to block incoming VPN connections, so my option is to switch to OpenVPN, but then my connection will only be available on my laptop, which is the only device that's connected to my wireless network. If you guys are able to solve the problem, or at least a viable workaround, please let me know. Sorry for the late reply. I've had no time to check your posts in a while.
Why is my TunnelBear not connecting?
There is a chance your device will not have a tunnel to be able to connect, that can happen due to a variety of reasons. For example: The device may be turned off while it is connected to the internet, and so your connection is now disconnected. However, it may also be possible you only received a part of your IP address due to a proxy, DNS or other server having misconfigured. To make sure you've got a tunnel the first thing you should do is log into your tunnel and check what IP you're receiving by clicking on your user name and going to "My Profile". Make sure to click on "IP" as some clients allow you to see your external IP address (which is the one you want, this will not be the tunnel's IP), but it won't tell you what the tunnel's IP is and then you're in trouble. To debug things make sure to set your device to use a static IP that your carrier gives you. Once you get a static IP set your device to use that IP address when your tunnel is setup and then go to your tunnel account and see what your real external IP is.
When your device connects there should be no other configuration required, unless you've got proxy, DNS or other server misconfigured. If there are, then those problems should resolve themselves if they're not related to the tunnel. Thanks! That's exactly what happened. I was logged in with "My Profile" the next time I opened TunnElbear. I was able to change my external IP back to a valid one but it didn't connect any further. I then went back to my tunnelfavor account and just did the reset to 0. It worked from that point on.
Troubleshooting, thanks for your help! I'm just a bit confused why my tunnel was "broken" or how it didn't start working when I was previously connected. I've been stuck on this problem for a month or more now, and after hours of research and trying to troubleshoot myself.I am no closer to fixing this problem. I'm running Windows 8.1 on an iMac. I've used tunnelbear for years on various android phones/tvs and had no issues whatsoever, but something has changed since windows updated and TB now connects but no data goes through.
