Configure proxy in Wi-Fi settings is the name given to the process of connecting a computer to a wireless network using a proxy. If its on, what is the difference between a Wi-Fi Hotspot and an Wi-Fi Connection? How does this connect to my devices, do they connect at 3G or 2G? The last one actually confused me for a bit, because it states there is an option for mobile data. When I read this I just thought there would be some small amount of limited data which allows you to upload files to your phone etc. But no, there is a limit on 3G too (but as yet I have never run into it). So how exactly does it handle this?

Can you add some information on how this works as a service, what it is actually doing from a technical level. Just so we know whats happening.

@tbaker: it makes no difference as to whether you're connected to a hotspot or a cellular carrier, just that Wi-Fi is used when possible. Also, while the system does use the 3G connection when available, it doesn't use a full 3G connection like the data-only SIM card would. Instead, it uses the much faster, near-as-possible Wi-Fi route to access the Internet; if you want to use the 3G card, just open up some apps.

@baldygoat: The 3G/4G/LTE switch is used to determine if Wi-Fi mode is enabled, not the speed of your mobile connection. If you select none, you'll be completely cut off from any type of internet (whether it's 3G, Wi-Fi, or carrier) Yes I am trying to use my current phone or the free phones for our kids. And I don't see a difference between my free Google phone or the free google phone on their account.

Are they both using the same google account. I do not know why the google play store has it disabled. The kids were able to use my wifi before but now they can't download anything or use apps from other websites such as Amazon.

Also is this new service going to support all of the features of the google phone such as google search without rooting.

How do I find my Wi-Fi proxy settings?

I use a laptop to work, but I also use it as a home server.

I would like to use the server for my business (VPN) and then use my phone to access it (so that I can do my online banking). The Wi-Fi proxy settings are not being displayed in the network connections. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the network connection. Any ideas?

My laptop is connected to my router through ethernet cable and I'm using a wireless keyboard and mouse. Here is my network connection. It has been several days, when I came across with one of my friend (let's name him Pritu) telling me his experience using the application for android called 'Proxy Setting Api'. So, of course I was very keen on knowing about the application and reading about the same in detail.

Today, Pritu told me that he has an Android smartphone running on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, where the device is rooted. It happens that we cannot really change the mobile data settings unless a Root access is present and without rooting of course, we cannot use any kind of network tools in Android.

However, to know more details of the tool I decided to first check what Pritu actually was using this application for. So far, I came to know that it is a very popular application and can be found on Google play store by searching using the 'proxy' keyword. On exploring into the application itself, it seems very interesting indeed and quite different in design as I will show in a minute.

I thought I would learn something more about it from my friend and therefore got on Google to read more details about the application on its official website. This tool claims to be able to do everything what your Android devices' network can do. So, first of all, I tried downloading the application from playstore on my phone and got the same error as my friend saying, 'There has been a problem. Try again later.' There was a chance I could have had better luck if I waited for a little while, but as my patience is not so long, I restarted the Android device.

The next thing I did was opening up my internet browser (Google Chrome) and visiting their home page from there. After entering the http:// or https:// prefix the URL, I saw an information on a banner being displayed on the bottom-left side of the page. The banner informs the web browser that it wants the HTTPs protocol to be enabled, even in case a proxy is being used, if the configuration of browser on the other end supports it.

As, I am using the 'No Proxies' policy for the browser, it was easy for me to disable both plugins in Firefox for chrome inbuilt settings.
