Why is Netflix not working even though I have WIFI?
Netflix is not working on our Roku and iPhone 4s, but other devices work fine.
We don't have a DVD player, so we can't watch a disk. I had Hulu Plus previously, but canceled the account when I realized I didn't like their ad-skipping policy. I'm pretty sure that I don't remember a connection being made from Netflix's IP address to my router.
You can try turning off firewall for the app on your Roku. Try that first. That may fix the issue. If not, the next step would be to reboot the router to see if that would help.
If you have internet through a wifi modem do you know the IP of the router? If not then here is a tutorial to figure out where the IP is of the wifi modem from Windows and Mac. If it is Windows then follow these instructions to get the IP address of the router.
If it is a Mac you would go to the System Preferences > Network and then under Internet connection there is a window showing which MAC Address is connected to the internet, here you would get the IP address. I don't think it would be that helpful to do this via an Ethernet cable as the IP address will be different. The last thing I would try would be on the Apple TV to see if Netflix will play on it. If it works fine then I would move on to the next step which is to check DNS settings on the router.
You are right, but I tried to get the IP address in both cases and it was the same IP address in both. The MAC address was the same as well, however. Maybe I have an old router and can't remember its IP address. I'll try to reboot it and see what happens.
Good luck.
How do I reset Netflix on my TV?
Resetting Netflix on your TV may solve problems with buffering. This could also clear up problems such as: Playback is not working, Media not available, Error message play queue 1, or Error message play queue 1.
A reset will clear the playlists and content from the beginning, just like clearing it from the Netflix website. This is especially helpful if you have a Netflix login problem where you can't access your account or if you simply can't find a particular movie or series in Netflix. A reset can save you from paying for unneeded content and clearing up a bad login to your account.
Step 1 - Connect the device to power. Step 2 - Press and hold the power button on the back of the television for at least 5 seconds. Step 3 - When the blue light starts to blink, release the button. This may cause a delay as the box loads, but when you see Welcome to Netflix, you should be good to go! If you want to reset other settings too, like volume or picture mode, there is a step-by-step guide here. Reset Netflix using my smartphone app. You can reset Netflix on your television if you have a smartphone that you use to log into Netflix. Here's how to do it.
On your smartphone, open the Netflix app. Tap on forgot password and your user name. Tap on link my account. When you are taken to the link page, tap on the link that says Continue. Scroll down and tap on Reset Account. Your password will be cleared. You can then connect to your computer and your password will be reset on the Netflix website. Reset Netflix using my laptop app. In some cases, Netflix won't let you access your account unless you've logged into it from your laptop. To set it up on your laptop, you'll need to connect the device to a power source.
On your laptop, open the Netflix app.
