What is the movie about the dark web killer?
Well it is kind of about the deep, dark recesses of the internet where an underworld of criminal activity that we know as the dark net also exists.
And it's about a vigilante on the hunt for a serial killer who goes by the name of The Night Stalker who has been killing with impunity for almost a decade. It's a movie that was already in production more than a year ago before news about the dark web killer ever broke out. The film is now finally moving to the editing stage but has already got major attention from several big name actors including Kevin Spacey and Sam Rockwell.
As well as this director David Gordon Green and producer Michael De Luca are producing the film which they have described as a contemporary story. It is based on the life of former CIA agent William D. Merideth who founded what would eventually become K9 unit called "Project R", and a young man named Richard Collins who went undercover to infiltrate the group.
The movie is due for release in Spring 2024 and with a script completed it's almost finished. What will the movie be about? The dark web killer is the real life inspiration for this project and we will be looking at the rise of this character and also the fall of Richard Collins who was on the hunt for The Night Stalker for several years. It is set for release in 2024.
When did the script for this movie start? The original screenplay for this movie was written in 2024 and it was adapted into a script in 2024. It was then further rewritten during filming. So the process was basically done between January-April 2017
I was curious where the idea came from originally. Who actually suggested the movie? The original idea was brought to me by my friend Chris Viscardi.e. It was his idea of doing a film about the guy who infiltrated the hacker group that lead to tracking down the real serial killer.
I was initially interested in helping but then after meeting Sam Rockwell I got really attracted to the project and decided to go the director route. I was just waiting on my first directorial gig, so I got excited about being part of something big. And it was such a great story. He was obviously looking for that right person to help tell this story.
How was the concept originally written and created?
Is Unfriended: Dark Web a true story?
, With all the bad press regarding online security, there's a huge concern over whether any of these stories are true, or just plain scaremongering.
To clarify, the dark web is part of the broader deep web that encompasses the deep net (the main part of the web), deep web 2.0, and the dark web. There are differences between these areas of the deep web, but ultimately all contain websites and apps where people have created content that they want to be hidden from prying eyes.
However, there isn't a single entity that manages these sites; instead, there are a group of web hosting companies, digital distribution platforms, VPN providers and Tor users who manage these hidden services. Some of these sites host content that people want to remain private, while others are designed to advertise the creation of drugs and weapons - an area which the public isn't allowed access to.
The best place to start if you're interested in learning about the dark web is by looking at the Tor project website. It has a nice infographic that lays out the different types of dark web sites that it hosts.
One thing you'll notice about the dark web is that it's decentralized - there are no central websites that act as go-betweens for everything, unlike the conventional web. For example, someone couldn't type into their browser and visit that page, which means that they won't find any Facebook pages like the one that they know and love. Instead, there are thousands of Facebook pages hosted on different websites, each with their own IP address. The problem is that if a user types in the URL then it goes directly to Facebook.
The same kind of situation applies on the deep web. In theory, you could have the most amazing deep web drug marketplace and a bunch of people will simply type in which will take them to your site, but in reality, they'd be presented with a 404 error.
