Why Netflix Cannot play on smart TV?
I want to watch Netflix on my new smart TV.
But it will not play, even though I have the correct HDMI connection and TV is connected to the internet.
I can watch other videos just fine. Here is what I have so far: TV is a Sony VPL-VN500. Smart TV is a Sony Bravia KDL-65W5000. Both TVs are up to date with the latest firmware. What am I missing here? UPDATE: I was able to see the TV screen when it is connected to the wall. When I disconnect the TV from the wall, the Netflix stops working. I suspect this is the problem.
The only difference between wall and HDMI is that on the wall I have the speaker which also connects to the TV via HDMI. The speaker has no audio problems, so I can play any kind of audio on it.
But with Netflix, there is no audio at all. I have tried every audio source that is available, but no sound comes out.
I have no idea what the issue might be. I suspect it's related to audio output on the TV, but I don't know.
When I play video files on my computer, the sound works, so I know that the PC is sending audio. It's just that on my TV, there is no audio at all.
I have tried this on both my TV and the Sony Bravia KDL-65W5000 (the same model that I use for all my media). UPDATE 2: The Sony Bravia KDL-65W5000 has HDMI 1.4a, which is not compatible with the old HDMI 1. That is the problem.
I can't seem to find HDMI 1.4a anywhere. Is there something else I need to do to get Netflix to play on my TV?
Re: Netflix cannot play on smart TV? I had the same issue. I had to downgrade to 1.4 to get Netflix to work.
You can get it by installing the HDMI/HDMI 1.4a AV/Cable/Smart TV driver from the Sony website.
The TV I am using has HDMI 1.4a, but the Sony Bravia KDL-65W5000 does not.
