Why doesn't Firefox on iOS have extensions?
As someone who has moved to Chrome for most of their web browsing needs, I've been noticing some of the advantages and disadvantages of using Firefox on iOS.
The biggest one is the lack of extensions. I was wondering if there were any reasons why Firefox would not implement extensions? Are they impossible to do on iOS? Is there a technical reason why they are hard to do?
Also, I read that the reason extensions are being used on the desktop is that a lot of websites look broken on other browsers. But are the websites that require extensions all the websites that look broken on Firefox on iOS? Or are there some websites that don't work properly on Firefox on iOS? Is there any reason why Firefox would not implement extensions? No real reason. I don't see much potential in implementing extensions, and we already have many extensions, which seems to be a trend. However, this is a very personal view, and there is no universal opinion about this.
But why not implement them? They might be, since Apple does not allow it. Also, we don't know what kind of permissions our extensions will need. Apple does not talk about this, but I can guess it has something to do with the sandboxing.
We don't know. Maybe, because they don't have to deal with the sandboxing issues. Also, maybe they don't think extensions are useful enough.
Can you get Firefox add-ons on mobile?
- rbanffy
Hi all.
I've recently been using firefox mobile and really like it. I know there are third-party apps (such as add-ons) to enable stuff that is currently missing on the version of Firefox on Android, but I couldn't find any information if there are any plans for an iPhone add-on version of Firefox. Anybody know anything?
Thanks! While the
App itself is mostly for Chrome users, it has some features that are really. Nice for mobile. All your sites from desktop and mobile browser are stored in a single cloud. Storage account, so you can sync across devices. You can manage bookmarks on the iPad by using the app on your computer and. Syncing them. It works well on iPad, iPhone, and Mac.
Can you add extensions to Firefox on iOS?
I know that I can download a Safari extension that makes Firefox look like it's on iPhone.
The same extension also works on Android, so it should work on the iPad and iPhone as well. Can I add Firefox extensions on the iPhone and iPad?
Re: ? You can't install add-ons for Firefox on the iPhone or iPad. If you are using the web version of Firefox, you could use the mobile version of Firefox. That should allow you to use a standard desktop Firefox account.
Note that this is only for the mobile browser. If you are using the desktop browser, you need to use the desktop version of Firefox (or Firefox for Android). You would need to manually install extensions for this version of Firefox.
I am on iPhone and have no problems with extensions. This is what I have installed: Extension Manager. Bookmarks Toolbar. Firefox Screenshot Plugin. I use the "Install from unknown source" option in the Add-Ons section of the Add-Ons tab in the extensions manager. Firefox for iPhone is actually an app which doesn't run the desktop version of Firefox, it runs the mobile version of Firefox - meaning no extensions. If you really want to use Firefox on your phone you have a few options: Get a jailbroken iPhone and get "Firefox Mobile", which has a lot more functionality than what you are trying to use. Or you can just get a second phone to switch between. Or you can just use the desktop version of Firefox. Originally Posted by Peko. Or you can just use the desktop version of Firefox. Yep that's the whole point. Why you'd want to keep your actual laptop with you when you're just running the desktop version of Firefox is completely beyond me.
I was playing with the Firefox for iPhone app and realized that it was limited. I do not have an iPhone but it allowed me to install a couple of extensions on my Firefox on my Mac. I will report back on how it goes if I install one of them. Thanks for the info guys.
Does Firefox iOS have built-in Adblock?
As I was preparing to watch some ads on Netflix, I went to Google and searched for Firefox Mobile.
When I got the search results, I noticed that the top result was for an application called Adblock. I opened the application, and sure enough, it seemed like there were a lot of apps with the same name.
I then used my iPhone to check to see if there was any additional built-in Firefox Adblock. When I did, I didn't find anything. So, it seems that there is no built-in Firefox Adblock for the iPhone.
Is this normal? If so, is there anything that I can do to get Firefox Mobile to use Adblock? I really hate advertisements and am a paid subscriber for a variety of reasons. I find it very irritating when I am presented with an advertisement that I absolutely do not want to see, or when I am using a service where the only advertising is in the form of a pop up and I don't want to see it either.
At least on iOS there is a built in ad blocker, and unlike other mobile devices, you can turn it off whenever you want. That means that it's definitely not a good solution for me.
It would be a lot better if I could use an ad blocker with FireFox for Android, but even with that I wouldn't consider it a great option. I use Adblock for both iOS and Android, but it's a bit different for iOS. I don't have an Adblocker icon on my iOS home screen, but when I open my Firefox, it opens and I just tap the icon. The first time it asked me if I wanted to use Adblock, but after that it just runs in the background and I'm done.
I use Adblock Plus for Android (with Adblock plus free for some sites) but Adblock has built in on iOS which works perfectly for me. I love Adblock for iOS but I also love it on all of my other platforms as well. My current choice on Android is Adblock free but I've been wanting to try Adblock for iOS. I might have to give it a go once iOS 7 is fully released.
