Which is the safest Android browser?
I am using the new Fire web browser on Android.
I have been using Opera Mobile, but I hate that you have to be in the phone's browser history to get there.
Fire is a great browser. However, I keep getting a pop-up message that says "There was a problem with your web browser." It tells me that it could not connect to an SSL server. What this means is that someone has installed a piece of malware into my phone.
I have tried to uninstall it, but I cannot because of a lack of root access on this phone. I have also tried to go to C:Program Files (x86)Operaopera.exe but it is not there. I cannot find where this software is installed.
I have tried to open the settings and click on "Apps" but that does not work. Where can I find this software? Is there another app that will let me delete it? I am currently using Samsung Galaxy S II, and I believe this is an OS upgrade from Gingerbread, so I cannot use a clean ROM. Edit: I have rooted my phone, so I can install ROMs with root access. Thanks for your help. If you are on a non-rooted phone, then you will not be able to get rid of this software easily. Since you have rooted your phone, you will be able to get rid of it.
If you have a rooted phone, you will need to get rid of this software. You will need to root your phone and then use Titanium Backup.
Use this program to back up your apps before you root your phone, then use this program to restore your apps after you root your phone. If you have any problems, try posting here. If you want, you can PM me as well.
I am using Fire. How do I get rid of this? I have tried the "clear data and cache" option and it did not work. I have rooted my phone, but I do not know how to use Titanium Backup.
If you have rooted your phone, then you will be able to get rid of this software.
Is Firefox ok for Android?
With the new operating system for Android in place, it's time to test out the performance of the Android browser.
The question we're all asking is: does the mobile version of Firefox run as well as the desktop version? A number of people have complained that the Android version of Firefox has been very slow. This is not so much a problem with Firefox but rather with the underlying operating system. However, we've been hearing that it's getting better over time.
In our testing, we found the Android version of Firefox to be faster than the desktop version. The test. We ran three tests to compare the desktop and Android versions of Firefox. We used the latest stable version of Firefox and tested it on our test machine (with the same specs as the phones we tested). We also tested the latest Firefox beta on our test machine. Finally, we used a real phone to test the new Android browser.
First, we opened a new tab and started Firefox. After each test, we waited for a few seconds before continuing. We timed how long it took to load the page after clicking the start button.
As mentioned, we tested on a desktop machine with the same specs as a Samsung Galaxy S3. The result. We'll start with the desktop version first. Here's what we got: Firefox for Desktop. We were able to load the page in 15 seconds on average. This is a pretty good time. On our test machine, it takes about 3 seconds for Firefox to load the page.
Firefox Beta for Desktop. The beta version of Firefox loads in 22 seconds on average. This is about twice as slow as the stable version. On our test machine, it takes about 5 seconds for Firefox to load the page.
The Android version of Firefox loads in 9 seconds on average. This is about half as fast as the desktop version. On our test machine, it takes about 6 seconds for Firefox to load the page.
The good news is that it looks like Firefox for Android is starting to perform as well as Firefox for desktop. The bad news is that it's still half as slow as Firefox for desktop.
Still, this is an improvement over previous versions of Android Firefox.
Is there a version of Firefox for Android?
Firefox.
I wonder how the mobile version handles scrolling, text selection, the new Firefox 3 on Windows, etc.
Firefox on Android. If there isn't a proper Firefox for Android, any alternative? Yes and yes. I found a page on Reddit that links to an XUL app that looks nice: Mozilla XUL. XUL is a language developed by mozilla, in order to build web applications. It's currently being used for desktop versions of Firefox. The advantage to XUL is the ability to add new features without changing the code for the rest of the application. The former is cross-platform, can run on any device, and doesn't require browser-like APIs. The latter can be compiled to Javascript for any type of device.
Google and Mozilla work on web standards, why aren't they working together on a phone operating system. The problem I have with this statement is that it takes so long to get anything done on the "standard" way. If Mozilla wants to get things done, they should create their own mobile OS and then work off of that. They would make a much better OS with their own version of Linux or something.
Android is a terrible platform. The webkit browser has made the web a horrible experience.
The reason Android is horrible is because of its "choice." By letting people make their own choices, we get a worse product. The iPhone is better than Android because Microsoft forced Apple to do their thing. If you don't like Apple's choice, make your own. There are a lot of other devices out there.
Google can do a much better job than Microsoft. There are two great choices for a phone: Windows Mobile and Apple. Microsoft makes a mobile OS that does not support web standards. Apple makes a mobile OS that does. They both try to force you to use their stuff. Either Microsoft or Apple will make you use the web on their phones.
Android is the best option right now if you are a Microsoft user. It's also the best option if you are a web developer because it comes with webkit. If you are doing the web, why would you want to use Windows Mobile?
How do I switch from Chrome to Firefox on Android?
My friend's phone has a locked bootloader, and it won't let us install anything other than vanilla Android (no other ROMs that I'm aware of). How do I switch from Chrome to Firefox? I've read this question and it appears as though I should have the capability of just updating Android's package manager and that would be it, but when I've tried to do that with no success. Any help is greatly appreciated. As your phone only have Vanilla Android installed (ie no official ROM such as CyanogenMod). You cannot install any external app, even from the Google Play store.
There's three ways to achieve this:-. Use a Custom Recovery by rooting your device, which then let you update to a custom ROM. There're thousands of custom ROMs available for different phones like CyanogenMod, Googley (Samsung), Stock ROM. But keep in mind that for rooted devices are voiding all device warranties. If you feel confident enough then try Rooting or Flash a custom ROM. And if at all fail then flash a factory image to make a backup and go over to another solution.
Flash an APK file manually. First get the apk file from anywhere on the internet (such as from the Google Play Store for Firefox, Opera) and you can install it by clicking file>install. After that just reboot your device once. The browser will automatically open up in Firefox. Then again if you want to remove it, simply close and reopen it.
Install a Launcher application on your device. You can either download it directly from Play Store, or install it by downloading the .apk file from the internet. However, it's advisable to use a launcher application since it can run both browsers and apps simultaneously. For example, Google Home Launcher comes with this feature. If you're trying to avoid a launcher, then search "free apps launcher". In that link you'll get some free apps that you can download for free.
