What is DNS provider hostname?

What is the OpenDNS server name?

there is none, you might have one.

unless you want to use cloudflare or similar? OerHeks, my /etc/resolv.conf says the nameservers of OpenDNS are used, but my browser can still work without that.
how can I test if a device is accessible from a specific domain? tayosr: curl. so for now I just disable those dnsmasq-owned resolv.conf files.
mouses: it returns with "curl: (35) Peer certificate issuer (CN=Let's Encrypt Authority X3, OU=Domain Control Validated, O=Internet2 Corp., L=New York City, ST=New York, C=US) does not match target host name "www.google.com". - "www.com"
doesn't matter that it says that, doesn't affect anything. what address are you trying to access tayosr. the ip address that i'm connecting to. and not a website? ben64: no the ip is the ip address of the host which I would like to test if its accessible from a certain domain. tayosr, ping www.example.com
when I do ping google.com it returns ping: unknown host google.com
but when I ping www.com it returns ping: unknown host www.com
can anyone help me figure out why my desktop background image disappears during a shutdown/restart. It does not display it until next boot up. I don't get this problem in 18.04, just in 18.10, any help would be appreciated
Ben64: it's a known regression that got fixed, and the fix is now available via apt repo.

What is my DNS server hostname?

The DNS server hostname you specify on your DNS profile.

This can be set at a global level (so it affects all of your devices), or only on specific devices (eg tablets).

What are DNS servers? A DNS servers is simply a set of digital-signal routers that will handle requests from Internet browsing devices like desktop, mobile and tablet. They forward those requests to specific records (name to IP) and return the appropriate IP address.

Why use DNS servers in my network? Your local device does not have the ability to directly access Google's main DNS servers and they can easily handle any DNS related requests. The benefit is you won't receive any errors when trying to look up the site on some of your devices.

You will, however, experience some very long DNS time delays when trying to visit pages that cannot be found due to their domain name being on Google's main servers and your device can't find the DNS record. How do I know which IP address (host) do I want to forward DNS requests to? On the menu bar click Devices then choose Settings > Change Advanced Settings > DNS & Proxy. Go to the top section and tap Forward DNS Servers and add the DNS IP addresses. Make sure to select Forward DNS by default.

Once you've done that, you will need to forward DNS requests on whatever device you are using. You can do this by turning DNS on in the browser or the OS (if your device has one).

How do I turn on DNS forwarding? If you don't yet have any devices with DNS forwarded you will have to follow some fairly easy instructions. Head to the website that hosts your site and change their DNS records to use your local IP address. They can then forward requests to your current device if you have one connected to the Internet.

This will redirect Internet traffic onto a new server (the one hosted at your current IP address). You don't need to do anything on your device, just let it pick up requests on the web.

When we spoke to Google about this issue for the first time it was because it wasn't able to identify certain devices correctly so it was having a lot of problems identifying devices.
