Is there any French series on Netflix?

Are there any French films on Netflix?

It's always been hard for me to see a French film or series, but I've made it my mission to see as many as possible this year and have found some interesting titles.

A couple of months ago I went backpacking around Europe and visited France for the first time in 10 years. After landing in Paris, I only had a day and a half to see as much as possible before flying home. However, I saw three great French films, all of which were on Netflix.

I really recommend you give it a try! "La vie devant soi". The Story. This is a very short movie with no dialogue. It's about a woman who works as a caretaker at a nursing home where she has seen a lot of interesting things. We follow her daily life, and learn that she was once an actress and has a son. It's an interesting story of fate that has many surprising twists.

You can watch the film on Netflix US, Canada, and in many other countries. You can also find the film on Amazon Prime Video.

Why is it on Netflix? I saw "La vie devant soi" on Netflix in August 2025. This was my first time seeing it. The film was directed by the famous French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard, and he was in talks to direct my next film project at the time. In retrospect, I would have had a hard time working with him, but I definitely respect his genius.

"L'cume des jours". Jean-Paul Rouve is one of the most celebrated actors in the world, but he is almost forgotten when he was younger. Now in his sixties, he has come back from the dead with new projects and new movies. In this movie, he plays a man whose daughter becomes friends with a young woman from their neighbourhood. The mother is worried about their relationship, but finds herself unable to forbid them from spending time together.

In 2025, Netflix was trying to improve its international offerings. I've read somewhere that the decision to make this movie came when they wanted to find more American actors to star in their films.

Is there any French series on Netflix?

I just got into French films on Netflix and am a bit confused.

On the front page of Netflix for France is. Well, Netflix. So I went looking for French films on Netflix and I see a lot of French films. I'm assuming they're just films that are not "mainstream" French cinema. Is there any English or American style lists of what's worth watching?

There is a big list on Netflix for movies made in France (and Quebec), but no list of Netflix series. What's up? No series currently? That's odd, it could be a lot of things. Netflix doesn't have a high ranking or anything; but all of my Netflix is usually quite "high quality" (except for their terrible live streaming of the Oscars and such), so I wouldn't expect it to have a listing like that.

I'd guess that Netflix is focusing on their American films/series first and foremost, before they try and expand internationally, which I think is fine. They don't have the money, nor the infrastructure to try and produce in all the other countries, so why bother? I would disagree with you. The whole reason Netflix decided to expand internationally is that most of their content is in America. They have a lot of money to invest in production and distribution, whereas smaller companies outside of the USA have to make do with much less money. If Netflix was able to get their movies into the hands of more people, they would be much better off.

I agree, and that's why they started the subscription service in the first place. But I can't help thinking, when Netflix started, that they would eventually expand internationally.
