In that article, I also mentioned a limitation that is present in the Google Maps API; it cannot return the lat/long data when it is set to 'street' level. This means that it will only return lat/long data when the map is zoomed in to street level. It will not return lat/long data when the map is zoomed out to 'satellite' level.
The reason for this limitation is probably security. If the API returns the lat/long data for the entire world then anyone can see the exact location of everyone else.

Any software that uses this data could calculate the exact locations of everyone in the world, and if that data was available to the public then that could easily be abused. To protect users, Google has decided not to return the lat/long data for 'street' level. It does return the data for 'satellite' level but there are some limitations that you should be aware of.

You can zoom in or out and pan the map as required. You can get driving directions to your location. The directions also allow you to set your arrival time and even your own waypoints to reach the place, which is a great help for making the journey a comfortable one.
The app allows you to track your place even if you are offline. It won't update automatically, but you can track it manually. You may even share the progress of your trip by sharing your current location with friends who are nearby or friends outside India.
You can take advantage of the features like sending an email with a map or geocaching by using the Google Maps API. You need a developer account to use the API and it is quite easy to create one.
