How do I manually set a proxy in Linux?
In the past, I've always used network-manager to set up my proxy.
Now that I've switched to a different distro (openSUSE Leap 42.1), the network-manager is not working and I'm trying to figure out how I can set up my proxy in Linux.
I've tried going through various sources, but most of the articles are about using command line tools like wget or curl. My problem is that I don't know how to do this using wget or curl or anything.
If you just want to set it up for all your connections, you can just create a shell script that will run wget with the appropriate options for your connection. For example, if you connect to a proxy called foo.org via port 8080:
#!/bin/sh. Wget --proxy=. And then you could make a shortcut like. Ln -s /path/to/script/proxy-settings-for-all.sh "Proxy Settings" And put it somewhere where your shell will find it and run it when you type the shortcut. Assuming you are using GNOME, you can install the package gnome-network-admin and configure it to setup your proxy by opening its network settings dialog.

The first question I get asked is how to set the proxy server settings. I have my own answer, but a much simpler one.
