Does Android 12 allow L2TP VPN?
Recommended Posts.
I'm looking to replace my current Android VPN for security. I've been using the built-in VPN software (and some of its limitations), and I'm thinking about switching to OpenVPN instead. A few days ago I was reading an Ask Ubuntu answer about how to allow L2TP (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol) to route IPv6 traffic through your VPN. (Specifically this one.) Since L2TP/IPSec only works with IPv4, it isn't a good solution for me. But it sounds like OpenVPN supports L2TP - is that correct? And do Android VPN apps allow it?
OpenVPN seems nice so far, but some of the answers on Ask Ubuntu say that it's more complicated to use than the default Android VPN software. I don't need full server management. It's just an IPsec VPN that's supposed to be easy to use. So maybe I'll go with OpenVPN after all, or maybe you have another suggestion?
Re: Android 12 allows L2TP VPN? Hi
We need more information on what exactly you are trying to do. Is it an IPsec vpn connection that does not support ipv6 address? or is it an l2tp vpn service that requires the use of ipv6. It sounds like you are talking about the android built in security? which it does not currently have support for l2tp. I would recommend against the use of L2TP VPN. Please share more information as you can about what you are trying to do. With L2TP. Share this post. Link to post. Share on other sites. This is probably the most accurate question at this point. Is this a layer two tunneling protocol (tunneling protocol refers to whether or not the tunneling protocol carries IP packets as opposed to ICMP) such as IPsec or the newer GRE or 6wire vpn over internet protocols? This answer will tell you more about how they connect and what protocol they connect too.
For Android, the VPN connection needs to be initiated by the VPN client and sent to the gateway on your Android device to setup the IPsec parameters. The Android VPN client will also setup the appropriate settings so you don't have to worry about that part.

Why did Android remove L2TP?
After I published the article "I love Android", I immediately received the response from many users that they never use the L2TP protocol.
? Will it be available for Android L? I love Android, but a L2TP connection requires a VPN server, which is something the manufacturers don't want to provide on the retail channels. In the official developer documentation of Android 5.0 Lollipop there is no information about it.
There is no reference for L2TP protocol at all. This protocol is not listed in the manifest or the AOSP source code.
Moreover, on their web page there is no mention of L2TP or any connection type that could require a VPN server. There is a mention of IPSec (which has been deprecated by Google in favor of IPSec-based applications) and OpenVPN protocols. But it seems that Google have removed the implementation of the L2TP protocol from the Android platform.
