Hi everyone, I would like to know the answer to the same question. In September 2023 (I think) Hotspot Shield got a new owner, and it looks like it changed a lot, including the interface. This seems like a good time to know exactly how it works so we know what is going on, right?

Yes, I see Hotspot Shield, while useful as a very secure VPN app, suffers from not being able to add an additional DNS without creating additional user accounts. And if those are not added, they won't work and will need a reset. My current suggestion is to use my own Hotspot Shield v2 app which uses an existing "Hotspot Shield" account, just without the need to add another, non-verified, user. They have it on the Play Store already; I can upload it to this site also but I don't want to clog up the site.

This might be helpful, but for people new to the site you can't really use it. It uses too much resources and needs updating every now and then to support more languages and new OS versions, so I stopped supporting it myself. You can still download the latest one from Google Play by the way - there's no change in functionality in there. That version does work pretty well and gives you access to many more language packs etc., so it's still worth it. The problem is if you want to get automatic updates then this doesn't work anymore.

Thanks for the reply. It wasn't long ago that the original Hotspot Shield app didn't get any support anymore and I had to go with my own that I made. I am happy for your reply and the explanation. Do you have one of these? I can't seem to find it in the play store nor any new info on how to get them.

How do I fix VPN network adapter is being used by another VPN?

I'm using a TP-Link Archer C7 wifi router with two other computers connected to it via wired network adapters. One of the adapters on the TP-Link is connected to a VPN network using a PPTP connection and the other adapter is connected to my home network. On my computer connected to the TP-Link router, the VPN network adapter is currently set to use the PPTP connection. When I connect to my VPN, the VPN network adapter is set to use the TP-Link's ethernet adapter. How can I get the VPN network adapter to use the ethernet adapter? I only want to use the TP-Link ethernet adapter for accessing the Internet. I would also like to keep the TP-Link ethernet adapter from dropping connectivity.

I had a similar problem where the TP-Link was setup to access the internet via the VPN network adapter when connecting to the VPN. The solution was to switch off PPTP and setup OpenVPN on my own.

This is what I did: Download the latest OpenVPN client and OpenVPN files on both computers. Make sure that all OpenVPN configuration files are stored on both computers. On one of the computers, make sure the network adapter to be used in OpenVPN has its IP address set as the default gateway in the connection. When you connect to the VPN, if you get any error, make sure to restart the client on the computer you're trying to connect to the VPN. This solved my problem.
