I just got off the phone with Instagram support for the first time, and they were very quick to acknowledge the problem. They've confirmed the blocking of my IP is working fine, so that's what I'll go on and use in this post. We will update this post if the problem changes or gets worse.

That said, I just want to note it took less than 10 minutes to get this issue resolved, and they've promised to be more vigilant about these things from now on, so it's not an unmitigated disaster. Update 12:52PM PST 11/2017: Instagram responded back and told me that I've been blocked because I sent more than 50 requests per hour. They've asked me to try to keep sending a couple of requests per day, and let them know if that doesn't work. I've been trying to send just 2 per hour, but I'm not going to lie. It's been hard.

As for how long the block is active, they told me I shouldn't notice a change for a few hours, but that could vary. Update 2:02PM PST 11/2017: Instagram told me that I should stop getting the message right away. The reason they're doing this is a security precaution.

Update 6:14PM PST 11/2017: Instagram tells me that they've turned the blocking off for now, but they won't remove the IP address association of me as an offender until I start sending too many requests. Now that I know the answer, what can I do about it? Instagram has given me 3 options for you. Wait a few hours for the block to come off. Request a phone call from support. Report a bug. Option 1 is just not an option. If you have an IP address that is constantly being banned by Instagram, it would take forever for the block to come off. Especially since this could happen at any time, depending on how many other people they decide to block at once.

Option 3 is easy. Just click the menu button in the top left corner of the app and then select "Report a bug." You can fill out the fields in that section, and they'll ask you questions like your name, email address, timezone, and more.

I am trying to access via Firefox in a corporate firewall, and it asks for an authentication/proxy/certificate error, but I have no idea what to do about it. Is there a way to prevent this? This is a serious issue. The FBI keeps coming in to search websites because of it. This includes both a personal website and a business website.

We need all you hackers out there to get involved! I was looking at the server logs and I saw that for one moment, someone came from my IP address that's being flagged. So I've been working hard on it and I hope you guys can help me figure out why my IP address is flagged. First I would like to note I do not use a malicious website nor do I host anything illegal or immoral. I sell jewelry with pictures of cute cats and dogs. So this isn't a child pornography website. Here are the steps I followed: Get a VPN. Get the IP address of the VPN server. Change my IP address to match that of the VPN server. NOTE: Since I have a dynamic IP, I don't know if the VPN server's IP changes over time. So I needed to buy another Virtual Private Network which is way more expensive then the IP address.

This is where the fun begins. I can do steps 1 and 2 perfectly well. I have a VPN with a dynamic IP address. I go to my VPN's website and choose to get my IP address. The website tells me where it's located and I simply download the IP address for that location.

I can also look at my router to find out which IP address is assigned to me. This should work if you have a static IP but it doesn't work. The server location does not change every time so I would be constantly moving back and forth.

I decided to try using what most routers call their gateway or firewall IP address.

Why did Instagram block my IP address?

I just noticed this evening that Instagram has blocked my IP address. I didn't do anything, I just signed in to my account this morning.
