Where to install Minecraft Java launcher?
I have downloaded and installed Java JDK for Mac 10.11 (in the background, I ran this to set it up: ). Now, if I type java -version in Terminal, I see the following: java version "1.8.031"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.031-b13) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.31-b07, mixed mode) So far, so good. The problem is that Minecraft won't run unless I explicitly add the Java Launcher to the launch scripts (which, I gather, is where it gets its path from).
In the past, I've done this by modifying ~/.profile, which seems to be deprecated. The relevant lines in my ~/.profile are as follows:
Export JAVAHOME=/Library/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1. But I don't know what I should have in the first line of ~/. What I am wondering is whether I should have any quotes around the value of JAVAHOME, or if there are other lines that I should change.
I'm not sure if this is your only issue, but try updating your JAVAHOME value to point to the correct JDK. From the Java Installation guide: This instruction creates a symbolic link, in your home directory, called. java8. This link points to your JDK installation.
Then, you need to update the JAVAHOME environment variable.

Is Minecraft Launcher free now?
Minecraft launcher was at one time completely free, but as of now it is no longer free, in part due to Minecraft selling more and more. What is the history of Minecraft Launcher? Read on for the details.
The history of Minecraft Launcher. Launcher has been available on the Android market from the start, but it did not have a name.99 launcher version for installing mods in the modding platform. The modding platform itself, as of now, has been free, with some exceptions, until about June 2023, when it was announced that all modding platforms were going to become subscription models with new apps coming along to replace their modding platforms. The Minecraft Launcher modding platform was never considered, and a modding platform was never released. While there are a couple 3rd party mods you can use in place of the modding platform, these are the same exact options as with the old Minecraft Launcher. These all run inside of the same old modding platform moddable launcher. So basically, this means the modding platform was not free. This all began to change about 6 months before the announcement of the current modding platform, in January 2023. After the announcement, modders started talking on Reddit about changing things on the modding platform. They wanted their modding platform to be completely free. This changed with Minecraft Launcher. The Minecraft Launcher was completely redesigned with one purpose - to be a free substitute for the modding platform. Some issues such as server access and private servers were not made completely free, while access to modding options and the modding platform were. With all these features added in, the launcher went from being very simple to being a massive beast. In fact, it actually surpassed many launchers on the market. This included having much more features, such as support for user generated content, a much better user interface, more options, and more.
Minecraft is now officially an e-shop. I think the real reason launcher is becoming paid is due to the fact that Microsoft put Minecraft on the windows store and e-shop. Now if you buy the Xbox game and then go on the e-shop, you can get the full retail version of Minecraft.
